More women accused of domestic violence?

The number of women accused of domestic violence has increased by almost 25 per cent over the past five years. Figures from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) show police recorded 4,918 women as persons of interest in domestic violence cases in the 12 months to September 2003, but by 2006-07 the number was 6,056. Of the women arrested in the five years to September, only 32 per cent of cases reached court, compared to 56 per cent of cases involving men. A new report from the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse said policies encouraging arrest had led to an increase in arrests of perpetrators, and a "corresponding rise in the number of dual arrest and single arrests of women for domestic violence". The report also warned of the difficulty for police in identifying the victim and the perpetrator of domestic violence, particularly if both partners were injured. BOCSAR director Don Weatherburn said the increase was likely to have been driven by more than one factor, including an increase in binge drinking or more men being willing to admit to being victims. "It's possible that people are becoming less tolerant of violence by women than they used to be," he told Fairfax.

I had a case several years ago when my wife would get mad at me and pick up everything she could get her hands and smash them She was from the Philippines but had also lived in Japan. Our first house was a trailor home and a lot of cheap stuff so I just let her get it out of her system..and she would get over it and clean up the mess and throw the broken stuff away.. but our second home was a lot nicer brick home with mostly new furntiure and appliances and when we would get into an agruement she would thow chairs and appliances ..she broke rice cooker, dishes, chairs, pictures, and after awhile I told her to stop but she would not so I went behind her and held her arms and restrained her (big mistake) as three we were done I cleaned all the mess as my wife went to bed..(big mistake) and put the broken stuff in the garbage//well her friend she called told her to call the cops as it would look good on the divorce papers..she did..three cop cars came..two women and interviewed her and since i was asleep..got me up and did the same..the police made the judegmet call as anytime you restrain anyperson against their will..no matter what they do..it is "spousal abbuse" even though my wife never made a charge..the police do this.. I was arrested handcuffed and booked and had to go in front of the judge. The judege told me to put up "bail" as i said not guilty..but i told him he could keep me in jail as I have no money for bail..i was ready to stay in jail..for i was sick of this system..so after awile he checked my record and let me go on my own recognize..but in the end I had to pay $1,000.00 for a lawyer and pay a hefty fine and go to anger management with my wife ..ten sessions..and Probabion for a while I took the first class with a shrink..and my wife did not bother to stay for the session as he was asking her why she did this destrutive action? so she just walked out..but the shrink made me take the classes as this was my duty and not her duty..so the judge got the word back and dismissed the charges..but I still had to go to probation for awhile..but the shrink told me on the last session that i should get a divorce from this women as she is not a rsponsible and mature person. but i am still married..but i don't push her buttons ..the law is not fair..the court system is very much one sided..and if a women is now getting arrested for abuse of her spouse then its about time...but a lot of this stuff goes on..the lawyer told me that if some police would have arrested me they would have taken me in an alley and worked me over in handcuffs and told them i resisted arrest just to show the guy what he deserves..i seen people in the holding with bleeding wrinst and the cops would stomp on the hand cuffs while they the prisinor was on the ground or tasser them until they almost passed out..it happens..to women now too..people are more violent..but the police have been too..and it is not all caught on video..but women are getting more drunk driving convictions as in the old days the police avoided a drunk women and took her home and not to jail..but not now..also when I was 21 police would give us a break and either take us home or follow us home..i came from a small village and my Family was well rsspected. this helps

I am so sorry to hear about this! There are a lot of men's support groups on the internet that could at least give you moral support. You shouldn't have to live your life afraid of doing something that might provoke your wife. There is probably an organization where you live that you can go to. They'll help you emotionally and, if you like, advise you how to go about escaping her tyranny. You deserve better!

This is a terrible story... and I really feel sorry for what you had to go through with the legal system. It is about time that men start fighting for their share of equality... because it is quite clear that there is a law for men and another for women. I don't know of your reason for staying with your wife... but I hope it is a good one.

women stick together and you never hear men tell their friend to "call the cops" on your wife if she is out of line...the news media and in schools, et etc all the the public brainwashed to just dail 911 and the government will make the man bend to their will...men have not rights..they want to tell you...but my wife has been married 22 years and now realizes that her "so called friends" who gave this phony advice are more screwed up then they protenc to be. my wife and i have mutual trust but i never doubt in my heart that if i said the wrong word at the wrong time...then she could drop the dime on me.(rat me out to the cops) once my wife was really acting like a "stinker" and i just said she is acting like a "BIT$ch)__)" and she glared at me and threatened to call the cops if i said THAT again! this is the part that scares me..she could..verbal abuse? past redorord? anything is possible..fear can make cowards of us all. You can't even give your true opinion anymore as this is going to pizz them off and "when Mama gets mad ..Nobody is happy?" well, i am just retireed and hopeing we will be able to have more space between us..maybe 80000 miles..??? thanks for the imput..good luck..i heard the laws are getting better...pray for a miracle
