i recently brought a laptop. I didnt want Vista but since I work in autocad and 3ds max I need a higher configuration, and had to be happy with vista home premium. My laptop has the bestest possible configuration but what is this my auto cad and 3ds max fail to install in my computer. The purpose for which I spent so much ceases to work for me. What do I do there are vista everywhere without any backup support.I feel so cheated.I dont want to change my laptop but how do I make my cad and max work. I am in a mess as i am having to work on a friends desktop with XP professional windows. But I have to wait in queue, though I posses better potion then her

The only version of 3DS Max that works with Vista is the newest version: Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2008.

Hello! sedel1027,
I think I will go for it then, but can you tell me if which version of AutoCad will work with it,

AutoCad 2008 is Vista compatible. AutoCad 2007 works with Vista, but you will need to download service pack 2 from Autodesk.

when my friend in I faced these problems and let me suggest the one thing all the customer care and asked them where you can download the drivers for your laptop and they will definitely get drivers for both vista and XP version. Download all the drivers required for the xp version and then install Windows XPand just go ahead with the drivers and let me tell you it will solve your problem and per cent. I also bought a laptop which is preloaded with Windows latest version and I never wanted it. Before even starting my laptop and formatted it and installed xp downward all the drivers from the intranet and now my laptop is running fine

Have you update your Vista with service pack 1? Maybe that would help..
Otherwise, an alternative way would have to fall back to Windows XP...Don't trade your Vista for XP...Buy a new Windows XP OS...this way, you can future-proof your laptop in case you want to use Vista again when its more stable with updated service packs...

That's one of the main reasons I steer away from Vista. There aren't that many applications yet that run on Vista. You should be able to trade the pre-installed Vista with Windows XP. Most laptop manufacturers offer such an option. But as chunter said, if you want your laptop to be future-proof, you could just buy an XP license, get rid of Vista, and when it's Vista's time to be in the limelight, restore your original Vista installation that came with your laptop and get rid of XP.
