we have a 15 month plan. My husband and I are going to be saveing every penny that we can till june of '09. My goal is too have about $10,000. We are wanting to but a house. My current lease is up in jan. and I don't want my son to have to change school sin the middle of the year so we are going to sign a 6 month lease and hopefully buy a house. Do you have any goals?

I do have plans like that. I set long term goals, then short term ones that will help achieve the long term ones. For instance, I want to save $7,000 by this time next year. So for short term, I have set goals to make lunch for my husband every day. I have also set a one month savings plan of $600. This way I can celebrate the small successes which will help motivate me to stay on track for the bigger ones. Plus, if I have a bad month, I can assess what I was doing that wasn't working and make adjustments. Good luck with your goal.

This is such a good idea, I like the idea breaking it down to how much I want to save a month. I think I am going to steal that from you LOL

Good luck to you, and I really hope you do it, I too decided to set myself a plan for this year. I wanted to get some things done on our house, we cannot afford to do it all in one go, and we do not want to borrow money to get it done, so I figured that if we save and get it done a bit at a time it would be better and plus we dont end up owing anyone anything. I did not want to make my plan too far into the future so I just set it for 6 months, and it is to have our dining room done downstairs and also the garden. So far I am on target and I really want the garden done for the beginning of July so that hopefully if we get a nice summer I can spend some time out there enjoying it.

That's an ambitious plan, but having the goal set in a time frame is the right way to do it in my opinion. Just saying I want to save $10,000 in the future probably isn't going to get it done. I have a goal connected to moving as well and hopefully will have ourselves moved by this summer. It's a much smaller goal than yours though. I try to set small goals for myself daily, weekly and sometimes monthly. Being like I am, I'd be way off track otherwise. Good luck. whit
