Minor Home Repairs

I have a minor leak in my roof. This is caused by ice building up around the chimney from my furnace on the roof. The ice was about 3 inches thick and was covering the base of the stack. I removed this after noticing this small leak in my bathroom ceiling. This is a small area of maybe 2 inches a cross so far. It hasn't gotten bigger. I marked the edges of it with a pencil to keep an eye on if it gets bigger. The ice would melt then it dripped under the shingles into my attic. then the water dripped down the stack in the attic to the bathroom. Now I have a small repair to make once it warms up a lot more. It shouldn't be too costly nor hard to do. A small piece of aluminum to place around the base, a few new shingle which I have, some caulk and some roofing nails and some drywall compound is all I need other than the tools. Have you ever done any minor repairs such as this? Are you experienced? What did it feel like when you finally did a minor home repair by yourself?

Oh come on Bob - single mother of 4 on a very fixed income? I've done tons of minor home repairs but to be honest get a kick out of it and have taken on some major ones including: ripped out all the water pipes and replaced them, gutted the bathroom and re-modeled from the ground up, sided outside, knocked out walls and such.
I am however afraid of heights so when it came to the roof needing replaced my oldest son who was still at home then did that for me.

We are also looking at replacing the linoleum floor in the kitchen and dining room with wood flooring. Then I also need to replace the walls in the bathroom someday. I need Faith, from above, to move here to help me out. HAHAHA!!

We had to fix a small leak from our attic into my daughters bedroom the other week - this wasn't caused by the weather rather by work done by a plumber last year that they hadn't finished properly and one of the pipes was dripping! i was a bit nervous of letting my other half near it but he does seem to have fixed it ok! Bet you would have fixed it in no time AGB - just because you are fantastic! xxx
