Have you seen the Spiderwick Chronicles movie? Or are you planning on seeing it? What did you think? Do you have a favourite character? What do you think of the cast? What is drawing you to see it in theatres? Will you wait until it's out on video? Or is it the kind of movie that doesn't interest you? Have you read the books? Will you read them? I went to see the movie on Saturday afternoon with my 3 sons (aged 7, 7, and 8 1/2), and I absolutely LOVED it!! I went into it not knowing much about it, except for whatever I had seen in teasers when going to see other movies in recent months. It was a tad scary in some parts for one of my twin sons, but he stayed curled up into me and that seemed to help him. My favourite character in the movie was Hogsqueal. He reminds me of a few of my libran friends who are so easily distracted by random things when they crop up. In Hogsqueal's case, it is always birds. Now that I've seen the movie and have a little bit of an idea what it's all about, I will definitely look into the books. Normally I read the books before seeing the movie, but it won't hurt doing it the other way around this time. From what I gather, there are 5 books in the series, and there is plenty more to learn about the characters shown in the movie, as well as more characters overall that movie goers haven't had the opportunity to get to know. As for the actors in the film, I was rather impressed by the all star cast. I had no idea so many big names (to me) were in it. Martin Short, Nick Nolte, Mary Louise Parker, and Andrew McCarthy. And the primary character, Freddie Highmore, playing both Simon and Jared, well, he blew me away. Although I have to admit, I liked Simon more (I tend to have this thing for supporting actors and actresses lol).

If you enjoy fantasy tales with goblins and faeries and magic, then you'll love it. If you're a fan of special effects, you'll love it. If you like a sweet story with a happy ending, you'll love it. But yes, there are some scary scenes. But should you watch it, just keep in mind that the good guys win in the end, and it's just a movie, and isn't real. ;)

I haven't seen the Narnia movie, so I cannot offer a comparison. I want to read the Narnia books before I see any of the movies (a new one will be out very soon).

I haven't seen any Peter Pan movies other than the Disney cartoon and "Hook", so I'm not sure if it's the same actor you mean. The boy in Spiderwick, his name is Freddie Highmore.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it... it really is a great tale. :) A few scary parts, but lots of funny parts too. A perfect mix in my opinion.
