What type of oatmeal do you like to prepare? I am asking about when you are making breakfast cereals... there are several types Instant Rolled or old fashioned Quick Cook and Steel Cut I find instant a little too pasty for my tastes, but the kids like them so I do keep them on hand for quick fill em up they can fetch for themselves. I usually keep rolled on hand as it is good for baking recipes as well as for breakfast food - I would love to try steel cut, though I am a little intimidated by the cost and the chance that I do not like them have you tried steel cut oatmeal? do you like it?

I have never even heard of steel cut. I usually use the instant or quick cooking. Rolled for cookies though.

steel cut I think contains the hull - kind of the oat counterpart of wheat berries...

my son likes the instant with out much liquid too. I tease him that he is eating cement, well it certainly seems cemented when I try to wash the bowl! he sometimes will eat it dry out of the package.

I like mine with honey and dried fruit. Though I had a friend that eat it with peanut butter and chocolate chips, I think that sounds good, but haven't tried it yet..

I forgot, I prefer the quick oats and another friend said she had used yogurt in her oatmeal and added peaches to it, I thought that sounded good too..:)

I have never tried steel cut oatmeal, I am not sure I have ever seen it either. I don't like Old Fashioned oatmeal at all. I use it for baking though, just not alone. If I am eating just oatmeal I always go with instant. I like the Maple Brown Sugar kind. Once in awhile I will eat Cinnamon and Spice flavor as well. There was a Vanilla flavored one that I liked that came in a single cup but I have only had it once. Our hot breakfast cereal of choice around here is Malt O Meal.

I did not find it near the cereal aisle or with the other oatmeals when I was looking, it was actually in the international aisle. Oh, I used to love malt o meal when I was a child. have not had it in years.

huh, that is a bit odd - I do not think I have ever heard of anyone else eating raw rolled oatmeal with milk and sugar. my kids will eat the instant stuff raw though without milk (the sugar is already in it)

I used to like instant (especially apple cinnamon flavor) when I was growing up. Now, I like all of them except for the instant. Obviously the quick oats are good when you don't have a lot of time to cook but I like the texture and heartiness of the rolled and steel cut. I like oatmeal plain or with cinnamon and raisins. I can eat it any time of the day...it's such a healthy and comforting dish.

After boring taking curry noodles, coconut milk rice and dumplings I would like to prepare oatmeal for breakfast. Since cooking the old fashioned one is rather time consuming so I prefer the instant or quick cook one. I am a bit lazy to wash the cooking pot so I like to have my bowl of Quick Cooking Oatmeal to be steamed. Then chocolate milk and some honey will be added to it. My son loves to take with raisins in it.

I use only one type of oat meal. its the rolled one variety. I must say i like the porridge made with it. it is easy to make, its chaep also compared to other varieties as i think.

Weight Watchers Quaker Oats instant oatmeal. I really don't care which flavor 'cause with all of them I add a little cinnamon and a dash of soy milk. thanks Zelo

I have not tried steel cut not evens sure what it is. My favorite is old fashioned rolled oats that all I do is pour into boiling water and quickly remove from the stove. I like my oats chewy not mushy.

I prefer the Old Fashioned (rolled oats). I am not fond of the Quick Cook oats. I do NOT like instant oatmeal...it's texture is horrible! Like library paste! I did try steel cut oats, but honestly, I prefer rolled oats. The steel cut oats are a lot harder to prepare and I didn't like the flavor or texture as much as rolled oats. Not to mention the fact they are a lot more expensive.

I usually go with the plain ol' oatmeal that you have to cook. Its supposed to be better for you than the quick cooking, and definitely better than the instant that has the extra stuff in it. Of course if you load it with sugar, cream, butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, etc, it wouldn't make much difference!

I just use rolled oats; with water for porridge and also in flapjacks all the best urban

I love oatmeal, and have been eating it for years, but only recently I've started eating steel cut oatmeal, and it is now my favorite. It's so good, I even got my husband into eating it, and he never really liked oatmeal before. He sometimes asks for it now, which really surprises me. One of the things I really love about the steal cut oatmeal is that it helps you to feel full for a long time after you eat it. That instant oatmeal, for me, makes me want to run back to the kitchen for something else to eat after only a half an hour.

I buy the instant oatmeal, for my son when I need something quick, but me personally I like the old fashioned oatmeal. It has a nice texture and I can add what I want to it like fruit, milk etc. So I don't waste time picking out the flavored oatmeals. Plus it's healthy too! :)
