do you still have a manual defrost freezer? what devices do you use to aid you in defrosting it? I do a few things but mostly I use the aid of the blow dryer (being careful to not let the ice water drip into the vent - I try to keep it just outside the area of ice )

Heh that reminds me of a funny story. When I went to college I stayed at an apartment with three other guys. Two of the three were in their last year so had been living there for almost three years. Not once in all that time did they ever defrost the freezer. There was literally no room for anything... the freezer was one block of ice. I got a new roommate who was... how to describe him... he had dinner prepared for us when we came home everynight... straight A's... very... dainty sort of fella. Well his parents came to visit and oh my you can't have a freezer that looks like THAT. So I come home and the whole kitchen floor is full of water. What the HELL happened? We defrosted the freezer. How? We TURNED OFF THE REFRIGERATOR AND OPENED THE DOOR. OH MY GOD... I will never forget that. "Have fun cleaning up that mess!" Thanks Zelo

My mom gave us a defroster that she had from years ago. That is what it is called. It look like a small oven element and gets red just like one. It melts the ice fast and helps get things done. I also have used a hammer when I did't have that and broke pieces free. This other contraption works great though.
