Pros:
Harry Bosh is about the only thing cool in this novel...
Cons:
The tainting of "The Poet" by this horrible sequel...
What I Thunk:
"The Narrows" is a novel about FBI agent Rachel Walling who is re-attempting to capture a killer, "The Poet". At the conclusion of his previous killing rampage.. she was unable to apprehend him. Four years later he begins killing again.. she then jumps to the hunt again. Instantaneously, the story involves detective Harry Bosh, who's a recurring character in many Michael Connelly novels. He is investigating a friend's death, which seems to be connected to The Poet's case.
"The Narrows" is a bad continuation of a brilliant novel called "The Poet" by Michael Connelly. It holds none of the fine crafting of "The Poet". That first installment I do recommend, for brilliance in depth and character development. But in this novel, the character development is poor and fails to deliver a potent storyline. Also, it is boring, uninspired, and lacks any creative spark.
I hate it, when people create something that becomes splendid and then attach a sequel that is crappalicious. Like here, this is a book that should not have been written.. for compared to the first book.. this book is momentously meager.
Have you read this novel, and did you like it?
