Apple (Mac) vs. Microsoft (PC)

Which one do you like best? Which one do you own? Or do you have both? Personally I am tired of having to fix my PC over and over again and having to worry about viruses and the like. Computers are supposed to make life easier, instead I find myself worrying about doing virus checks and my computer ends up going too slow. I am now saving up for a Macbook of the current generation. It is only $999 with the student discount +tax:D But I am 15 and have no job. So I have to rely on the computer for now hehe. I've made like $53 this week though. I'm still about $700 away from buying one! You can say I prefer Apple. (That ipod Touch is also very tempting!) So share your thoughts :D

I am a reformed PC user that has switched to Mac. I love my Mac and wouldn't give it up for anything. And if I buy another computer it will definitely be a mac. Mac's win out in form 100% and function 80%. Really though it can't just be boiled down to which is better. Despite the vast improvements Mac has made towards being a serious business machine, it is still light years behind. Also for gaming the PC wins. Unfortunately in both cases it is primarily because of greater software choice availability rather then functionality. The graphics on a mac are much better, however game companies rarely think of making mac versions of their games. It is the same for business software, however part of that is Steve Jobs stubbornness. Steve Jobs never wanted to make mac's business friendly as such he underfunds R&D for servers and business applications. The Xserv is a great file server for a mac only shop, but add a few PC's and it is not as effective, you are better to move to Linux, now add application services and forget it. Mac OSX Leopard is a great OS, its stable, easy to navigate and configure, and simple to troubleshoot. For the average user Mac's would probably be the ideal choice, but for serious gamers or business people avoid it. Now for graphics designs people forget PC's entirely, Mac's win hands down. Although the same software is available for Mac's and for PC's (Adobe's CS3) it just outperforms on a Mac by at least a factor of ten, not to mention the controls flow better and more logically on a mac to a mac user then on a PC to a PC user.

This is true. But since I am not a computer gamer (anymore) I much better prefer the Macbook. But When I get the Macbook I will still have access to this PC so it's all good :D Now I just need a Linux running computer haha.

I am a Tech enthusiast and I will tell you truthfully from working at a Computer Store/Service Shop that is Certified in Apple and PC repairs that Apples aren't as great as they seem, but on the flip side its true that mainstream Computers sold at Firms like Best buy, Wal-mart Etc. are mostly made in a horrible manor. Also, PC's aren't just Microsoft that is the operating system that is being used, there are many other operating systems that match and are even superior to Apple OS's due to there flexibility. Yes Apple's are easy to use out of the box but are clearly behind in Gaming, Software capabilities, and open source integration but only because of the OS. As for Graphics being better in a APPLE as stated above me: that is quite a wrong answer They are equal! They use the same Hardware!! Apples used to use different Hardware tailored to their own needs but found it cheaper to use the same Hardware in PC's. if your starting to get the jist from this response they are basically the same thing with 2 key differences Style and OS. As for Features and Speed Spec's you can get a PC laptop for cheaper but, to make this a neutral response: The macbook's are affordable and are ready to use right out of the box. On top of that they do provide quality parts and labor. the MAC OS is easy to use and requires less work like you wanted so it is the perfect choice for you!

Hi RESguy! I have both. Well at least I used to have a MAC and a PC. Now, I'm just stuck with the PC cos my iBook broke down. It's too old. MAC is easy to use and is not prone to viruses like MS. I'm gonna have me new Macbook though next week. Yehey!

My friend...everything has it's own benifits...MAC is great in some aspects...Microsoft in many.. If you consider fed up with these viruses, trojans and all then better get a Mac book.I have Windows Vista Ultimate..I like Windows best because of its good graphical interface...highly sophisticated than Linux & Unix based systems like MAC, Solaris, Ubuntu and all. Coming to virus if u maintain your computer well with a very good antivirus system...if u choose a best OS and good configuration the you will be free from all slowness...It's very good to a have MAC too ...I tried it..think twice before you take any step... Bye Have a nice day..keep smiling

I've had PCs all my life and never had much luck with them. They always seemed to be too slow, or have a virus. And since I am still going to have a PC desktop (actually two because my sister has one as well) then I will have the best of both worlds when I get a Macbook :D

defintely Apple. Oh oh, have you seen the new Macbook Air? Have you seen how thin it is? Now, that's revolutionary. Apple always win against Microsoft in any way. Their design is simple and programs running on their OS are so much faster and less memory consumption.

The Macbook Air's are indeed thin, however I wouldn't call them revolutionary, all they did was take the MacBook removed the CDROM, and additional connectors, and took all excess space out. I think the Air is a waste for most users, I wouldn't buy one. I can see them useful for students, but that's really about it. Its a limited market once you eliminate the cool factor. Of course with Apple its almost always about the cool factor, so discounting that when talking about macs isn't really fair. Its like discounting marketing power when talking about MicroSoft.

I would have to agree with Myrrdin on the Macbook Air. It would have been "revolutionary" if they had made it thinner but kept the same speed and features.

I have never had Mac. I use PC-s all my life and if I had to choose my choice would be PC, but it is just because Macs are mystery to me... lol. In Croatia there are not many people with Macs and reason for that is their price. They are much more expensive then PC-s.

Yeah, it's true that they are much more expensive. But in reality, if you compare the specifics I think the Mac is worth the money. This is the thought most people have towards Macs which is why so many people own PCs. You can buy a PC laptop for like $500. That's one fourth the price of a Macbook. But does that PC laptop have 2.1 GHz? And all those amazing features?

From a student prespective apple is very good. It has cool features and looks cool. Use windows if you are looking for a career in software. Happy browsing
