You lucky person. You have just won $250,000 (US, or the equivalent in your own currency). However, there is one stipulation, you cannot spend it on yourself or your family and the money must be spent in the next 12 months. What are you going to do with it. Who deserves your help the most. Small print: This is notional winnings, I am not really going to give you $250,000. Wish that I could.

$250,000. Yes a fair amount. I wouldn't need twelve months, just the cheque clearance time then I would divide into two amounts of $125,000 and give one cheque to Cancer Research, which it a cause close to my heart as my father going through chemo and rad at moment and the other $125,000 I would give the the NSPCC to keep Childline open as when a child plucks up the courage to seek help they need their cry for help answered because they may attempt to phone again, the children are our future and we need to keep them safe. Both worthy causes and I agree with your sentiments.

I would give some to our local EFA (Effort for AIDS), some to the Humane Society, the Animal Protective Association, women's centers, children's homes in my city, and to friends I love. And maybe even some I don't. Having something like that to give would be the most phenomenal thing to do. I love to give and it always gives me great pleasure and satisfaction. I'm not materialistic, and I don't need much to make me happy. Just a nice comfortable place to live, with all my loves around me. Cozy. But if I had money in amounts such as that, I would give until I could give no more. What greater reward is there than to be able to give?

I agree entirely and I love your selection. I have often thought that it must be wonderful to be able to give (preferably anonymously) to causes that really float your boat. Dinner's over. Drinks are being poured and I am being called. Talk later.

I am not sure what I would do with that amount of money and who to give it away to. I think there are lots of different community organisations that I would probably divide the funds between - Homeless shelters, food banks, women centers, child abuse centers and other non profit organisations within our community.

Give it all to the food bank. I spent 6 months of my life worrying about going there because I was so short on money and food but chose not to, because I know how short they always are. That would set them up for a few months at least.

Well, I guess I would give it to my church then. Are you sure we can't spend any on ourselves! Not even a lil'-bit?! What would you do? Marilyn :o)

If you give it to your church then you will receive the blessings of the whole community. Is that not spending it on yourself too? Sorry to be obtuse. Good try though.

Sorry forgot the other part of your reply. It will go to charities that for what ever reason do not receive lottery monies. (in the UK lottery money is given to "good causes". Quite a lot don't meet the lottery criteria for grants, but are worthwhile. That's where the money would go).

Probably the whole amount would go to the Salvation Army, It's pretty much the only charity I give to. I won't give to the United Way or Red Cross because to much is spent on administration.

Hm, I am at a phase in my life when I really have no faith in charitable organizations. I think I will invest it in a business and provide work for many people, so that they can take care of their families well. You may say I will get the profits and that is spending on myself. I argue against it and say, my lifestyle is simple and any profit I get will go as a fund for my employees so that they can give better education for thier kids and spend on healthcare. Cheers

ha, for me I'd like to earn more money than that. If what I can do is only to help others, I wanna contribute it to build a school in the rural area. Education is the most important thing.
