I have a pay as you go phone. We bought it after a hurricane because our phone was knocked out for 2 weeks and we needed to contact family. We rarely use it, just for emergencies.

I have my trusty Tracfone and I only use it for calling cabs since I don't drive and it's here for emergencies since I do have a landline. It's a pay as you go and since I seldom use it I always have a lot of minutes on it.

That's what mine is too, a tracphone. It still has almost the same minutes on it I put on in 2004 plus some. I rarely use it but it does come in handy. I don't understand why people feel the need to be on the phone 24/7 even while they drive.

I have a TracFone and yes, it's a pay as you go also. I like it and it suits me just fine. I also have it just in case of an emergency and for my husband and I to text, sometimes call, each other on our breaks. We mainly text though, seeming you can send 3 text messages for .90 seconds. That's a great feature and I like that way much better. Makes your minutes stretch even further.

I got a Nokia N70 Music Edition phone, Bird phone (I forgot the model but its an old silver flip phone)and Sony Ericsson S700i (which is a swivel phone). Living here in the Philippines which,I believe is the cellphone capital of the world, it is a must for everyone to have a phone. Some people here would not eat a meal just so they can buy prepaid cards for their phones (90% of cellphone users here prefer prepaid phones). I'm using 3 different networks for my 3 phones and each one has its use. I use my Nokia phone for contacting family, my ericsson as my work phone and my Bird for my friends.
