Just a heads up!

I made mention of this in the Etsy section, but for all of the crafters who are members of Etsy or are just a bit interested in Etsy.... Martha Stewart taped a show yesterday with members of the administration of Etsy.com and the show will air on Friday. It's great for Etsy shops, as the show will drive traffic to the site. On yesterday's show, Martha had an Etsy seller that made baby clothes on and her Etsy site made 51 sales after the airing! If you're interested in what Etsy is all about, this will be a good show to tune into or tape to watch later. If you're an Etsy seller, get ready for an influx of potential new customers!!!

Funny, my roomie and I are just signing up for this. Even though I am truly Martha, I don't care for her. Thanks for the heads up. We will be putting jewelry, bookmarks, and more under my name. Ainge

It's actually the first thread that shows at the bottom of the page inder this thread. I think it's in the hobbies section and it is Etsy.com. If I can find it again, I'll forward the link to the thread.

Thanks for the heads up, I am going to set up my vcr to tape the show. I had a Etsy Store last year, but did not put enough effort into it. I think its great the site is getting more publicity because that's what it needs. As soon as I get my inventory together, I will be opening another store.

Your welcome! Yes I am totally convinced that effort is 75% responsible for success on Etsy. Effort meaning promoting and getting invloved in the forums. The other 25% is creating something sellable and having it priced correctly. Etsy is very competitive and you either need to be one of the best at what you do and have a big outside following or you need to plug away in the forums, making friends, promoting your items (sounds alot like myLot)to have success.

It probably would be a good time to start. Income tax checks coming in, then the rebate checks in another few months... I can't believe how busy I've been so far this year. Not that I'm complaining...LOL Hope to see you on the Etsy site one day soon, mention your shop name so I can stop by and give you a "heart"!!

that's great! nothing like a figurenhead of crafting and wholesome living such as martha stewart to thrust attention into the Etsy market. I have not used Etsy (yet) I guess I am a little intimidated. I would really love to see this martha stewart episode, but afraid we do not get television in our home. maybe her website will have some information on the matter.

Actually, she did mention something about ETSY being on her website near the end of the segment. The segment wasn't what I expected... Martha seems to be impressed with the Etsy sellers that actually do the crafting and creating. The Friday show was with one of the founders of the site. While he brought a lot of items from some of the top Etsy sellers, he was looking to promote his site, while Martha wanted to talk about the crafters. (the word crafter made him cringe a bit, as Etsy refers to their sellers as artists) There was an Etsy seller on the Martha last Weds and she made baby clothes (customized onesies, I believe) after her segment on Martha, her shop made 50 sales that day! Etsy is competitive, but it really is a lot of fun. After my boys are in bed for the night, I split my evening on my laptop, promoting and chatting on Etsy & myLot!

That is awesome. I have been on etsy but have not sold on there yet. I make tutus and custom make clothing. I also sell stuff like ugg boots. I wonder if they will open it up to be able to sell stuff like that on there once they get really big.

Handmade clothing has been surprisingly very hot lately. Etsy has somethin new in the BUY menu called "Pounce". Pounce is a section that features sellers that have just recently sold an item and it shows 5 or 6 items still in the sellers shop. Quite often recently, Pounce is filled with clothes that have been sold over the past hour or so and I jave also seen the front page treasury filled with clothing items. Handmade and custom clothes seem to be very hot right now at ETSY! As far as mass-produced items, I don't believe that will ever happen (unless it is supplies) as it goes against everything that Etsy stands for...all handmade-all the time! You should seriously consider taking your clothes to Etsy, clothes is a super-hot catagory right now! Thanks for the comments!

I have thought about doing etsy for my collage work, but haven't had much time to do it...it is great when famous people highlight work someone does, i have no idea why but it really seems to drive traffic up... that is so nice of you to share with people! i learned of etsy originally from a parenting magazine that featured the handmade toys & baby items...I have been primarily putting it off though because i am not sure if anyone would actually really want anything I make or if I can sell it for a price that is cost effective either.

I haven't look into the collage medium at Etsy.com all that much, but I do know there some sellers that sell collages. Etsy does offer free stores, with .20 listings that last for 4 months. As far as cost effective items, i think there is only one way to find out ; ) You never know what people are in the market for on Etsy, but very little surprises me on the site anymore. Thnaks for your comment!
