I love cooking and I can be very adventurous with food. I love putting spices on my food and love to grow them myself. My step-daughter gave me complete box of herb seedlings for Christmas and can't wait to plant it come summertime. My favorite herbs are basil, marjoram, rosemarie, thyme, and tarragon. What's yours?

Most herbs can grow in a sunny window even in winter. I bought my mom a rosemary "Christmas tree"...it's her favorite herb along with basil. I love oregano, sage, rosemary, and thyme.

Tarragon Plant - tarragon had a lot of medicinal properties
I love using herbs. They are for more than just flavoring foods. For example Bay leaf will keep bugs out of flour and other foods. Sage is good with poultry and will help settle the stomach. Basel planted near where your dog sleeps when out side will keep fleas away. Horehound is good in a tea with lemon and honey for help clearing the lungs. Tarragon can be used to sweeten the breath, chewed can relieve a toothach and is a good substitute for those needing to restrict their salt intake. Tarragon is also effective for eliminating intestinal worms in children. Follow the directions for Herbal Teas and give 2 cups per day. Teas can also be used for menstrual cramps, stomach cramps, digestive problems, fatigue, nerves, and to promote the appetite. I love to learn all the uses for the many different herbs http://www.gardensablaze.com/HerbTarragonMed.htm

I use basil, sage, oregano, thyme, basil, and parsley the most. We grow basil, sage, chives, and thyme is the late spring and early summer. Our peacock and the peafowl decided last summer that my 2 basil plants were tasty and ate most of them.

Me too. Remember the days when we were younger...when we can spend the whole day cooking and concocting our "miskipop meals" while wearing your dad's chef hat? Wish I could grow herbs in my garden too. My favorite herbs are basil, oregano, thyme, rosemarie, marjoram.
