Who would you believe to be a modern day hero? could be a political figure, a philosopher, family, just someone that actually reaches out to the community and makes a difference.

Oh you have hit on one of my pet hates, I hate how the word hero gets thrown around, movie stars, sports people, and pop singers and such should not be called hero's. The word hero should only be for people who have endangered their lives for others ot maybe given up their lives for others or their country. To call a sports person or a politician a hero cheapens the word for those who really earnt the tag...

You really misunderstood my discussion big time. I asked who did you believe to be a modern day hero. I do not remember mentioning any of the people who you pointed out except for politicians in which some cases ARE modern day hero's. I believe a hero is a person who takes strides for their people or country, in which some cases may be endangering their lives for the greater good. i appreciate your addition to my discussion to show how some people may skew the idea of what a hero is, but even there you are wrong because even there "hero" can be used to describe many idols around the world. A Sports, movie, or music star can be viewed hero determining on which part of the population they inspire. I thank you again for your feedback however opinionated i believe it to be, its a subject you really have to obtain different views for.

I guess we have to agree to disagree, I think there is a huge dofference between a hero and a legend or idol...a hero should not be someone you admire for sporting achiements or acting ability, the badge of being called a hero should be earnt, and many do by giving up their lives to earn it, it should not be cheapened as it is today by giving it out to just anyone in the news...I didn't misunderstand your topic at all, I came into your discussion because the word "hero" sets something off in me because it is divied out to too many people today who are no where near hero's, but you are entitled to your opinion... cheers.
