Please someone, what does it mean to be a true christian? Is is going to church always, reading the bible so often, paying your tithe, praying and fasting like jesus did? Or is it being moral in the name of Jesus. Please can someone help me out?

Most often, a Christian defines a "True Christian" as "someone who interprets the Bible exactly as I do, and believes all the same things I do right down to the last detail".

Yes and its more than that. It's all about believing what the Bible says and following what you've believed in. :)

In my opinion being a "True Christian" isnt about going to church regularly or how often you read the bible or pray...Its about being mindful person, nonjudgemental, kind and compassionate..Its about a YOUR personal relationship with god which is something that comes from deep within your heart and soul NOT a book or a church leader etc etc...Being a "true Christian isnt about constantly trying to change, convert or correct other ppl..there are no brownie points for that...Be mindful of how YOU live not others.....Be kind with your words and actions not only to others but also to yourself.. We're all worthy of understanding and kindness..Dont use the bible or what god intended for his ppl to be cruel and hateful or hurtful..To me thats part of what being a TRUE Christian is all about but there is more...I'll leave it at that for now though.. and for the record I've not been a Christian for many many yrs now..BUT that doesnt mean I don't know what I'm talking about or don't know what it means to have a relationship with god etc.. ;-)

Go to church on sundays ,follow the comandments, act and behave like a sheep, never use your own mind ,always listen and blindly believe what the fathers have to say ,they know everything , they are direct decendents of god.Give big donations and continue giving donations without questioning, convince others to do so God needs the money very badly, the priest need to have a good life,If you practice morality to save your soul that is your decision, but on the face of it at least try and put up a good moral show.

I always thought that being a true Christian meant loving everyone even your enemies. A true Christian is non-violent. He has to turn the other cheek and not fight back. They can't be vengeful. These are the reasons I am not a Christian.I believe Jesus did everything they say He did. And I believe that they believe He is the son Of G-d. But there No way I can follow these rules, so I am not a Christian.

hey all~ what a great question (also a contentious one :P) i would say a few things really make someone a 'Christian' and it doesnt include how often they make church, or pay a monatary tithe (i've always viewed giving of your time, and your resources as an acceptable tithe) i think being a 'Christian' has everything to do with your faith in Jesus Christ, is HE the saviour of the world? do you do your best to live according to His teachings, as layed out in the Christian Holy Bible? Are you forgiving, loving, try to do what is right? Do you pray? Do you read HIS word? If these traits and actions are present, i would say then you are a Christian, if not....if your debase, if your bitter and judgmental, if you reject HIS teachings then you are not....if you think going thru the motions, making enough church services etc, makes you a Christian then i would say your mistaken.... thats my answer to this great question! ~j

Dear eddyaftermath: I suppose that one could go on forever responding to this but, i will answer with 2 scriptures. #1. John 13:35 Jesus said: By this ALL men shall know that you are my disciples, that you have love for one another. #2. Micah 6:8 He hath shown thee, O Man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee; but to do justly, and to love Mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? When it comes to all the do's and don'ts i always remember what Christ himself said about the commandments when he was asked which was the greatest. #3. Matthew 22:37-40 37, Jesus said unto him, thou shalt Love the Lord thy God with all thy Heart, and with all thy Soul, and with all thy Mind. 38, This is the first and Great commandment. 39, and the second is like unto it, Thou shalt Love thy neighbor as thyself. 40. On these two Commandments, HANG all the law and prophets. If all the do's and don'ts hang on the first two commandments, which are love. Then to me, to be a True christian, means to always try and have an attitude of LOVE. But remember the one who loved perfectly they cruisified. mrgraves43

in my opinion its basicly putting into practise the phrase"loving ones neighbour as ones self"if everyone did this it would be a much happier world with or without religion

Hi eddy, To be a true Christian is to follow Jesus Christ. You acknowledge that you are a sinner and in need of forgiveness. You repent of your sins (turn away) and ask Jesus to come into your life. Then your old ways will pass away and you will become a new creature! You will have the kind of peace and joy that you never knew before! I'm not saying that all your problems will disappear, but you realize that Jesus is now in control of your life and you can trust Him to guide you and see you thru your difficult times. A Christian seeks God's plan for his/her life. God has a very special plan for every life, but we have to be willing to seek it. We need to read His Holy Word, the Bible, and ask God to help us to understand what He is saying to us. The Holy Spirit will dwell within you when you give your life to Jesus Christ. A true Christian is not perfect. Christians still sin, but not willingly. We want to serve and please the Lord and we do it joyfully! God blesses all those who do His will. We become children of God! How awesome is that?! We know that we are saved because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. He paid our sin debt in full. He Who was totally without sin, became sin for us. His love is that great! I pray that you will come to know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and know new Life! It will be the most important decision you will ever make! God bless you!:)

I think it means doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. being tolerant of each other. having love and compassion for all and loving yourself so you know how to love others. looking to Christand what he taught is to help others. to do good without asking for praise. to help those in need of help and forgive those who wrong us as we forgive ourselves and all this can be done without necessarily going to church every sunday. Christian is what is inside a person what a person does how he treats his family and his friends and other people. that is my feeling anyway.
