Thanks for the e-mail but it was funnier the first 20 times I read it!

I have an agreement with all of my friends who send me e-mail. If they refrain from inundating my inbox with forwards, I let them live. So far that seems to be working out well for everyone.
But during my time here I have added a new folder to my e-mail contacts called myLot friends.
And everyone in this group knows everyone else in this group and we all identify each other as being people we like to talk to outside of this site. So before anyone gets their little cyberfeelings crushed that you aren't on it, let me explain. I don't freely hand out my e-mail address to anyone. The 1355 spam I get in one day is enough to deal with so unless you gave me yours and asked for mine you will never see me pop up in a PM to you giving you mine in the hopes that someday just maybe you will want to talk with me off of the lot.
One of my friends carefully screens her forwards and decides whether or not I will appreciate the humor in it before she ever adds my name to a fwd list. I like her. I'm thinking of sending her a gift basket.
I have another friend that doesn't even check the recipients of her fwds and just blindly mass e-mails them to the whole group. I still like her too but I'm thinking of sending her a fruit cake :)
I ask you, how many times can you read the same joke about little Johnny or get the same top 10 reasons why blondes have more fun?
Thank god e-mail has evolved from having to individually click on each message to delete it. My pointer finger would be forever swollen if I had to manually delete each and every double, triple, and yes, even times quadruple, message I get.
Do you have friends like this? Do you know people who send you the same things over and over and over? Do you have friends who never e-mail you unless it is to forward something they got from someone else to you?
So you want to reach through your monitor and strangle them with the cable to their mouse, or is it just me?
Hey, if someone has that forward on e-mail etiquette forward it to me! LoL

I pretty very really read forwards, let alone send them on. I do occasionally send out links to websites that I personally found interesting, specifically to people I think would also find them interesting, but that's the closest I get.
My friends aren't bad about forwards, most of them. I have one who sends things he found funny to our entire group of friends, and another friend who will occasionally forward one of those little stories or jokes... with scathing comments by himself interspersed.
Those are fun, and since it took some of his time to do it, I don't mind them.
However, just about everyone else sends me tons of forwards. I have a cousin that I should really get around to blocking on my hotmail email, because she sends nothing but exactly the type of forwards I don't want... pushy religious ones. *rolls her eyes* I have other family members who send random crap too, and several mailing lists I had to unsubscribe some because they became overrun with forwards instead of actual conversation about the topic they were created for.
It's gotten so annoying for me that I started a new email account at gmail to get away from the spam... though I still haven't gotten around to giving many people that addy yet.

Everyone who knows me well enough to know my email address knows the type of humor I appreciate. So the majority of the time if I am sent a fwd it's ok. But I swear if I get one more of the "if you're my friend you will fwd this to 10 of your friends and back to me or I will know that you really aren't my friend" forwards I may just have to hunt down my friend who sent it to me, luckily I know where she lives, and tie her pointer fingers in a knot. See how many more friend forwards I get after that!
Unrelated to this discussion. As I type this your number is 6669. Has anyone ever told you that you're so hot in a 69 you'd make the devil sweat?
No? Oops, my bad. That was the diamond thighs discussion :)

I suppose I wouldn't mind forwards if they were actually suited to my interests or sense of humor. :)
Hehe, you come up with such nice threats.
Oh wow, that is my number!!! What a clever way of putting it too? I feel so flattered. :P

lol cyn. I made an email account JUST for the mylot friends that i have! And i have an email made JUST for spam and junk that i get when i sign up for different sites that ask for emails.
And then, i have my hotmail account, which is for just friends that i know in person mostly, and or talking on messenger. I have my mylot emails go into there, in a folder the same as you do, but i get notice on my screen as soon as i get the emails, thats why i like it! I have an aunt, and a few friends that send me forwards, i also have made a filter that stipulates ANYTHING with the words fwd or fw in the subject goes DIRECTLY into the trash folder!! I HATE THOSE DAMN FORWARDS TOO!! WHO has all the time in the world to read everyone of them that everyone sends to you!?!? LOL its nuts. I have two friends that if they know its a really good one that i'll enjoy they will actually TAKE the FW out of the subject so i will read it.
Okay, so 5 or so a week are not so bad IF they are good ones ;)

It's nice to see I'm not the only one who has a dozen email accounts. I have my professional work email. My professional gmail account, my ebay gmail account, my hotmail account that i use when i sign up for info from places, my yahoo from when I used to sign up to dating sites to belittle the losers who would want to "get to know me" and my aol that I actually forgot I had until about 3 days ago.
I think you have a great idea. If I tell them that if there is FWD or FW in the title it's going right in the trash then they will at least have to take the time to remove that before thinking I will read it.

I don't have the e-mail etiquette one.
I used to have friends and family forward me all those mails earlier...and sometimes I would get repeats from the same person!! I had to write back to everyone to stop sending me ANY forwards. Luckily all of them got the message and now they send me only the ones they think I will enjoy...and since most of them are scared of the verbal thrashing that I will give them, they don't forward stuff to me for months and so I get a few of the forwards and get to read the rest from my husband whose ONE friend makes sure he gets everything.
I don't have anyone who sends me ONLY forwards....if they continued to do it after I wrote to them that I don't want it, I'll just block them...lol...they can call me on the phone if they need to talk.

Oh I would scream if they sent me nothing but forwards and then called me to talk about the forwards they sent me.
The block feature is a wonderful feature indeed. I only have one friend who is really really bad at doing this and she knows she is. I wonder if I block her for a little while if she will get the hint, because obviously telling her about it hasn't worked yet.

Oh how I detest the mass mailouts! I don't get them nearly as much as I once did, and for that I am thankful. There are a few people who have my hotmail address that I never hear from, other than when they're on a forwarding frenzy, and in those cases, I don't even bother opening up the mail. I just delete immediately. There are others who think some are really cute, and think I might think they're cute, but I don't. I MIGHT get around to reading them, but will likely leave them in my inbox for a few days before deleting them.
I myself rarely forward an email joke or story. It has to be REALLY good for me to do that. I would hope that my friends realize that, and will read them, knowing I'm all about quality not quantity. It's the same with funwall posts. I forward only the best and most obscure! :D

CanadaGal, i read your last line for some reason.? . i thought you said "most obscene?" not obscure but sorry, I remember Pierre Trudeau was making a gesture to one of his opponets during a debate in Parlimanet and the orator said it seems the Prime Minister wants to be obscene and not heard..?" well, sorry, maybe this is not funny but I always remember this when I was going to school as Trudeau. was very famous in the US like JFK..or infamous? well, he was very interesting and never boring..the saying was in Canada that they did not have any funny money but it was all Trudeau..(true dough?) Sorry for the bad puns..have a nice day

Very rarely do I forward any email so I know I'm not getting a fruit basket or a fruitcake..but damn I wanted the basket. Once in a great while I'll see a different one out there that I pass on but not often. I have gotten some recently though from a mutual friend that are blindly hilarious and I hit some other friends with them and so far everyone has gotten a kick out of it...But they don't really bother me- I just hit delete if I don't know the person who sent it..

If the threat of a fruit cake isn't enough to stop your friend from sending these forwards to you I don't know what would be! I do get some of the same e-mails over and over again from the same people - nobody from here - but when I ignore them and never send them back or pass them on or whatever else they instruct me to do eventually they stop coming. I don't mind getting the jokes as long as I don't get the same joke over and over. Strange you should mention this forward on e-mail etiquette because I just responded to a post about that very thing a few minutes ago. Maybe we should start a new myLot interest group - things I would like to do with my life - come up with new ways to punish senders of e-mail forwards.
