On Friday, the 8th day of Aug 2008 at 8:00PM local time, the Asian giant-China, will declare the 17-day 2008 Beijing Olympic Games open in a glittering ceremony in Beijing. The slogan of the games is "One World,One Dream'. Summer Olympic Games not only provides a platform for athletes from all across the globe to perform at their best, but also spread the message of peace, prosperity and universal brotherhood. Hosting such a mammoth and significant sporting extravaganza that comes once in four years is an honor for any country and pride for its citizens. That's the reason why there are always stiff competitions between countries that contest the bid to win the right to host the Olmpic Game. And China was bestowed with this honor of hosting the 2008 Summer Games after it beat the other candidate cities like Istanbul,Osaka,Paris and Toronto at the 112th session of the International Olympic Comittee(IOC) held in Moscow on 13th July 2001 in the second round of voting. Do you believe that Beijing will meet the expectations of the world?????

I am wondering if the Beijing Air will be clean enough for the Athletes to breathe. If its very polluted the Athletes will not compete. Also China's Human Rights are very poor.If a man is accused of misconduct against the Government he is taken out and Shot. Many Western countries are trying to bring those human-rights issues to the front. Will China arrest Human rights protestors during the Games?

I do agree with you, the human rights are pathetic in China, but an event like Olympics would be much more prestigious for the country, and china would not leave any stone left unhit in making this event a huge success. Sadanand.
