How do you deal with nausea?

Sick Pumpkin - What I feel like doing, thanks to nausea.

I have caught some kind of a bug or virus or flu or whatever you want to call it. I was feeling a bit off last night, and thought that maybe it was because I was tired from lack of sleep from a few nights previous. But then I awoke in the middle of the night a few times, feeling like I was going to throw up. I got up, went to the bathroom, but when in an upright position, I found I wasn't needing to throw up like I was when lying down. I eventually got back to sleep, but did not rest well. I awoke for the day, slightly less nauseated, but it is still there. I'm keeping up with fluids, and staying in resting for the day as much as I can, and will hopefully get a bit of a nap shortly. I'm not at all hungry, and the thought of food makes me feel even more ill, so I haven't eaten anything. But I'm starting to wonder if I should force myself to eat something, so that if it doesn't agree with me, I can just throw it up. But gosh how I hate to throw up! That was too obvious a statement... I don't know anyone who actually likes it to be honest. lol. I also have a bit of the chills. First thing this morning, I had a bit of the sweats. ICK! What do you do to deal with nausea? Does it work right away? Or do you just ride out the course of the illness? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Poor you. Keep your fluids up. nibble a piece of dry toast or a cheese biscuit. Being male most of my illnesses are potentially fatal and I tend to take to my bed and sweat it out. So long as a I receive regular checkups and the odd cuddle, I am generally OK. So firstly check that the children are not murdering each other and wrap up warm either in bed or on the sofa. Children must supply you on demand with whatever you crave, that's in the fridge cupboards etc. Read a book, watch some TV and play with the computer, but not too much. If lover is there get him to administer cuddles (it goes without saying that the children should be doing this too). If he is not, and anyway, I'll give you one too. Get well soon. XX

It's one of the kids who gave this to me in the first place, so I'd rather them stay away. lol. And yes, me being a woman means this isn't fatal like it would be for you. Thanks for the cyber cuddles. :)

I'm not too sure about the bath thing when sick. Something about soaking in the germs doesn't sound appealing, not compared to showering and washing them away.

I forgot to say. If you have a bath tub, fill it with very warm water, scented bubble bath, enter, and luxuriate. Don't bother if you only have a shower. It doesn't seem to work the same way. Sorry that it was one of the children that gave you the bug. Hopefully they are over it so that you are not having to do too much caring yourself.

I tend to drink mint tea, in tiny sips, of course. Another thing I've used in the past is candied ginger. When I was pregnant especially, this one was a big help for me. I hate throwing up too. I hope that you're feeling better soon, and you find something that works for you!

I opened one of those cans of diet ginger ale last night, and sipped on it now and then. I am feeling much better this morning, but I'm not sure if it's from the drink or not.

Salty digestive pills? I've never heard of that. I know we have a product called "Gravol", and it is supposed to help. But I've never tried it.

Some people say flat gingerale works well. or flat coke. I dunno.. I just make myself actually throw up if i'm feeling sick, and then i usually feel better and i only drink water untill i've stopped throwing up. I hate throwing up anything other then water. its nasty. wAter at least is n't so bad!!

I would normally go that route as well.. make myself throw up. But the nausea isn't quite strong enough to feel the need for that. I'll see how tonight goes though.

I usually use Oleum Cajuputi (http://www.henriettesherbal.com/eclectic/kings/melaleuca_oleu.html). I don't know if it's available in Canada, though. Even the smell of it can calm my stomach from almost throwing up, right away. But if your condition doesn't improve after a few days, you should get medical attention, though. Could be something serious.

I don't know where there are any local herbal stores to me, but I can't get out to one in the next day or two anyways. I'm sure I'll be fine in a few days, and I doubt it's anything serious. This sort of thing is going around all over the country.

I generally try to take something with mint in it. It soothes my stomach fairly quickly. Either a mint candy, mint antiacid tablet(obviously), or even a leaf of mint if I am at my grandmothers who has mint plants.

I've never heard of taking mint to sooth a stomach upset. I don't have any sugar free mints in my house though, aside from a mint chocolate bar. I don't think chococlate is such a good idea right now.
