I am not a fast food junky or anything like that. I only go maybe once a week - if that. But I tried a Taco Salad at Green Burrito and am hooked! $5.59 (which included tax!) for a steak taco salad in a huge deep fried flour tortilla with all the toppings! Steak, lettuce, chees, tomatoe - nothing very fattening, and probably some on the fried issue of the tortilla, but when all is said and done, probably as healthy as you can get and still have something like this! It is fantastic, and I eat it for lunch around noon and then am full the rest of the day! Just wanted to share that since it is so good it puts me in a great mood!

There's a tomato salsa on top and you can get hot salse if you want, but I don't carefor theirs but use Pace. Green Buritto is "partners" with Carl's Jur - at least they have one location and you can buy either one there.

I shall take hubby there to try one as he presently gets the ones from ToxicHell, and those are not always very good. We love their other food, and consider the combination restaurant featuring Long John Silver's and Taco Bell aat one location to be the best of all possible worlds, especially with a McDonalds right across the street, but hopefully the steak salad you describe will be an improvement.

Well, I don't want to get in trouble with TacoBell, but just as my coworkers used to refer to the little truck that comes around for lunch as the Roach Coach, if they were going to lunch at Taco Bell, they would always say "I'm heading out to ToxicHell, want anything?" Sorry, I thought everybody called it that. I've never had a bad shell on a crunchy taco or a crunch wrap, but hubby has gotten some nasty/stale shells under the salad. When he does, he just eats the lettuce and stuff and leaves the shell there, as we usually get nachos, too. Never got bad chips in the nachos, either. Well, now you know a new word :-)

Is ToxicHell a real name or one you have given a bad place? Just wondering - never heard of it! I don't care for Taco Bell as they just skimp to much on the ingredients and those taco shells are just gross -old and stale tasting. This Green Buritto with Carl's Jr is same as your mention of TacoBell and Long John Silvers. And I do say, they add a decent amount of steak to the taco salad. I thought at first it'd be skimpy but it isn't.

Oh, I've heard of the Roach Coach. My husband used tobe on the job sites, I forget what they called it. It was always something different on each job site! That's life!

I love Mexican food so I'm sure I would love that salad. I am more of a soft taco person, so I'm not sure abour the fried tortilla, but that sounds a little bit like the salad we do here at home sometimes - minus tortilla :) We start with a bed of lettuce. Then add either the meat in small thin slices - can be steak, pork, or chicken - then we add the shredded cheese, chopped tomato, sometimes chopped cucumber as well, a bit of taco sauce and a bit of sour cream.
We like to have this one during summer.
ANyway I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it makes you feel good :)

Then you'd love these. Sounds just like what you make. The shell is fantastic, I asked yesterday to buy just the shell and they charged me a buck I think - I had a coupon for $1 off! But it is the flour tortilla deep fried into a huge bowl shape. It is so good on its own! At home, I make taco salads all the time too, okay, well not all the time, but I just use tortilla chips, hamburger meat, lettuce and cheese and salsa. I don't care for tomatoes.

It does sound good, and I have never tried it, but I will give it a try. I am not much of a fast food eater myself but every once in awhile I like a big old fat greasy burger and fries. Maybe once every three months. But next time I feel like one maybe I will give this Taco thing a try. It may help get rid of that fat burger craving, with less calories. It isn't too expensive either, in my view, so I will try it. Thanks for the idea.

Now I'm hungry for taco salad! Too bad we don't have a Green Burrito here. I have a feeling that Taco Bell just wouldn't be the same.

I don't care much for Taco Bell. They just seem to skimpy on the fillers.

Exactly! The only filler they don't seem to skimp on is the beans. I'd like more vegetables in my stuff and getting that to happen is next to impossible -- and expensive if it's tomatoes I'm asking for.
