There was a news story on mylot I responded to about this. In short, I think it's great that he's seeing active service and not being hidden in some tent with tea and scones. Still, my skeptical nature makes me wonder if he's being put in an active zone but generally given less dangerous mission than other units.
It would be great if he were to display leadership potential and become skilled and important in Britain's military. I find it odd that he doesn't start out as a sort of lieutenant or leader. I don't know if he wants to prove his a manly man like all the others or if this is just the first step of his career which will eventually move to leadership.
I guess you can't force people to be leaders if they don't have the skills for such. As a story, however, a biography told later in life, this more humble military service would make a great foundation for a story about someone who eventually became a military leader.

Read the life of Sir Winston Churchill. He started his carreer as an ordinary soldier and ended as Prime Minister leading Britain through the great trial and danger of WW2.

I too was very suprised. I think they were very succesful in keeping this one under raps. I wonder how Diana would feel seeing her youngest son , going to war.?? You have to give to them though, they are a fighting bunch. Prince Andrew went to the Faulkens. I am sure we shall hear of many heroic acts he will preform while he is there. I wish him the best of luck.

There was an agreement arrived at with the British media not to report anything about Harry being in Afganistan as it was thought that this would not only put his life in danger but those of the men serving with him. It's only just come out because there was a leak.

I'm not surprised. He is not the first member of the British Royal family to go on active service and I don't expect that he will be the last.

Am not surprised that Harry went to fight, he has always said what is the point of being in the army if you aren't allowed to go to war zones. I am proud that he wanted to fight for his country just as I am proud that every other soldier has done the same
What does surprise me is that a foreign media source leaked the story, the British media has done the nation proud, so why couldn't they wait until his tour was over? the leak is just so they can say they were the first to report it
