What is the meaning of life?

Amongst the animal species... it is clear cut... they live to reproduce... That is all...
They actually serve a greater purpose... which is being part of the food chain... but they don't know that.
Until recently... humans were not different. Each one of us thought that what life was all about... was getting married and have children. Many still do... and in third world countries... nothing has changed.
However... in the Western World... thanks to capitalism... people have found a greater purpose to life than having children. And that is to make money. Make as much money as you possibly can.
Thanks to the internet and the availability of a huge source of information... the generation of today has every right to ask themselves questions...
When you look at the big picture...
Reproducing is simply not good enough to satisfy someone desires when they see what is going on in the world. And making some real money must be a real daunting task for an 18 year old who does not have the brain to study.
So... is it really surprising to see more and more people finding themselve on medication for anxiety and depression?
I don't have a solution for this...
But besides becoming a re-born Christian...
Do you have one?

I do not think any one person can say what the meaning of life truly is...because at a deeper level it is all subjective. For those who are atheists...they think we are here to live our lives on our terms while we are here...and die without any life beyond this one.
Organized religions often promote the idea that we are all sinners and the purpose of life is redeem ourselves in the eye of our Creator.
Those of us who believe that we are sparks from Source and here to live a variety of lifetimes and grow our souls feel that is the meaning of life.
Yes, it is true that many capitalists are driven to make money their meaning for being here.
Others think having children and living within their 'tribal' views of procreation is another perspective.
Yet some others like Buddhists think that we are here to learn how to live in the NOW of our experience and that is what gives life meaning.
I could go on...but in my anyone who says they KNOW what the meaning of life is...all I can say to them is..."Do you really?" Whatever works is my view!

Hello Perspective...
Good point... Whatever works...
But does it really work?
The question has to be asked...
Because if everyone's personal idea of what the meaning of life was... did work...
One would think that everyone would be happy with their life.
You seem to have found happiness through a lot of soul searching in order to get your priorities right and adopting a whole new set of values. And you were one in a million who had the good fortune to be able to do it with their partner.
Most people would not even consider exploring the ideas of a new concept and outlook on life like you did.
Most people would not even be aware that the possibility to change our views exist.
And like I say... you are one in a million. Many people out there might get a wake up call and decide to change. But to get your partner to change with you is another story. And if you are the only one changing... you are going to feel very lonely in this big world of crazy people. lol

i believe there is a bigger picture than survival. i agree there must be a deeper purpose for living. being a christian , i would assume you are into soul development. For me, is just enjoying what life has to offer whether good or bad and it is up to us how to manage it. i take life as a journey, an adventure and i found out that it makes me stronger and wiser. i think this way , money can easily be made, it is just there for the picking but life itself is one big opportunity that we should not take for granted , we have to enjoy it while we can. in life itself everything is free, the air that we breath , friends and people to talk to and be with while in the material world of making money everything has its price. go inside yourself and you will know the answer.
