Do you think the flu shot helps? Or does it really.....

Some people think it's the government's way of staring a role in conspiracy. My opinion about the flu shot is not a very good one. They say that being in the healthcare field is more manditory to get the flu shot because it's possible that we can be carriers, when the season is here to receive them. I myself do not get the flu shot anymore due to getting ill from it. I went years without getting this flu shot and I was never sick. One year I decided to get the shot, and wow three weeks later, I was sicker than a dog. Not only was I bed ridden for 4 days, but I lost pay due to not being able to work from being so sick. The next year I was pressured into getting it again so I did.. obviously not learning my lesson from the first time, I was sick again, lost pay and so on. That was the last time I ever decided to get it done. Since then I've felt healthy again! I know the flu shot contains a strain of a flu so your body will be able to attain this virus and be tolerant to it, but how do you know if they are giving the correct flu strain? What are you thoughts about the flu shot?

I have never once had the flu shot. I have never had the flu for that long. it's usually a day or two that i am feeling sick for, and then i'm fine again. I have heard from different people that the flu shot works for them, and i have heard like your story, that it makes them more sick, or so it seems. I dont know if i will ever get it. I couldnt this year cause i am pregnant, but i dont think i would have got it anywas. Where my mom lives, they give the flu shot to people with health risks and like you said in the healthcare industry, She was just ending a round of chemo when the fall hit, and she has been WAY sicker then i have been all winter. *shrug* i got sick but like i said only for a day or two at a time. And my mom has had flu's and colds that have hung on for a month or more!! poor mommy.

Awwwwwwe sissygrl, that must be terrible for your mom! I couldn't imagine going through that :( I feel for her. I just don't trust the flu shots, and I don't think I'll get them again. Congrats on the new baby coming! Thanks for your response

They inject you with the same virus all the time, there is always new strains of the flu going around. I never had a flu shot in about 5 yrs and feel good about it. It's you decsion to say no to it! I would never get again, and being pressured into it doesn't help either.

Hey girl thanks for responding to my question! Since I was sick from the flu shot when I got it, I haven't received it again due to this. This year the nurses at work asked me in the fall and even left notes on our communication board asking me if I wanted the flu shot, so I said no, and no one could understand why I said that, and I explained my experience with it, so then they began telling me I could be a carrier, and I told them well I would rather be a carrier than be six for the next month or two. They didn't like this too much but oh well, would they rather me take time off and call in sick which they don't like? Or have me there feeling good and being able to work properly :) I also gave them those options and they never bothered me since. wooohooo! lol

I don't want to speak too soon since winter is still not over but the worst illness my family has had was just colds and a few sinus infections or of that nature. Not the flu. And none of us got the shot. One year we all got the shot and we ALL got sick with something. I am not sure if it's really worth it.

Well mbs, I'm knocking on wood for you and your family so you don't catch it :) It's just one of my silly opinions about this flu shot, some people get sick and some don't, but mostly everyone that I've seen get it or have been told by them that they've had it... get sick! Well thanks for your comment and have yourself a great day! Stay healthy :)

I have always declined getting it and I won't have my kids get it. I have heard of people getting sick right after receiving the shot...I don't know if it's cause or coincidence. The shot is only effective for certain strains- somewhere just under 50 or so. But, there are way more strains than that around. In my area, there was a nasty flu going around recently and it apparently is not one included in the shot because I had three people at a party I held last week who'd had the same flu and they'd all had the shot this season. My concern is that the flu strains will just become stronger as they build up resistance- just like the issue with bacterial infections and antibiotics...we now have bacteria that cannot be killed with antibiotics.

I completely believe that some bacteria's are so resiliant to the antibiotics. My neice had a case of lice one time, and I was talking to a health nurse about it, and she was telling me about this product that you have to wear on your head all night..can't remember the name of it right now but anyways, she was telling me that the lice have become resistant to it through the generations of their lice families... gross? Back to the flu shot, yes I will never get it again. Thanks for your response
