Leap year Feb 29th

February 29, 2008 10:19am CST
Okay so I live in Britain and here there is a tradition that dates back from the 5th century. Apparently on the 29th of February a woman can propose to her boyfriend and if he declines he has to pay a fine. http://marriage.about.com/cs/holidays/a/leapyear.htm So there is the link and you can google it if you wish but everyone in Britain has heard of it. So have you heard of this, do you have anything to contribute and is there anything your country believes happens on this special day.

Hey, Claire! This sounds really cool, what a great tradition! I seem to remember something here in the States called "Sadie Hawkins Day", similar in allowing women to ask men for a date, or something. I'm not sure if it's tied to Feb 29 or not, have to do a search and get back to ya!
