Why do trucks park backwards?

Have you ever noticed how pick-up trucks often seem to be parked backwards in their spots? Compared to other vehicles, anyway, there seem to be a hugely disproportionate number of trucks backing into their spots. Can anyone explain this marvel? Is it just "cool" - or is there some practical/logical reasoning behind this phenomenon?

Sometimes my husband bakes our truck in to a parking spot so the front of the truck doesn't stick out into the driving lane. The box of the truck can hang over the grass or cement that edges the parking lot where the front of the truck cant.

Hmm, that's an interesting point. I hadn't thought of that.

The thing about these trucks is that half the time they are not in their spot.
