One of my cousin's of about 10 years old just came to my house and as she was playing, she just called me uncle, sugar is tasteful and salt is also tasteful though they have different taste. Which of them is more important? I told her that both are important, but she insisted that one must be more important than the other and i kept meditating to give her the answer and i could not convince her then i decided to post it here to know the answer so as to transmit it to this little girl. Sugar and salt which is more important to you and to the family?

I would say salt is more important, because you need it to function properly and it's not available in many other forms. Sugar, on the other hand, we can forego in its granulated form, as long as we eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, most of which contain natural sugar. Do you think that might satisfy the little one? lol. Brightest Blessings.

Thank you my friend. It should make for healthy eating at least! :) All true, though.

since I and my husband were both diabetics sugar is most importantbut also salt. we need just a little salt and a moderateamt of sugar but for people with diabetes we cannot handle much sugar. specially table sugar and corn syrup in foods fruit sugar is not so bad in measured portions. I believe we haveto have alittle sodium for good health and perhaps a little sugar but fortunately we manufacture glucose out of veggies and fruits and whole grain cereals so adding more is just too too much.

i don't want to pick only one when i can pick them both. i know they are both essential in life because i eat them almost everyday in my food. without these ingredients, i would not taste anything in my food. i love sugar because it makes my drink sweet. i love salt because it makes my food salty. lol. salt is also essential when you are in a hot environment when you sweat a lot and you have to conserve water in your body to prevent dehydration. sugar or simple sugars are food for the brain and quick energy for the cells. when you need quick energy just drink or eat something that has a lot of sugar in it and you can have your super power.

You need salt, well, chloride ions IIRC, for your nerves to function properly. You also need enough salt to maintain the salt concentration in your blood. Sugar, OTOH, is basically a cheap energy source. You can use other energy sources like starches or fats, and thus get by just fine without sugar. What actually happens if you are not eating sugar, is that whatever energy source you are using gets converted into glucose, or technically, glycogen which is then metabolized to release its energy.
