My son burned the bacon!

I was on my way home yesterday and my son called me......Mom, the house is full of fog.......I said what? He said, I was making some bacon and the house foggged up. Now, I have taught him how to cook and thought it all sunk in. I told him that he had the fire up too high, did you burn the bacon? He said he likes it crispy, but no it did not burn. I told him to turn on the ceiling fan and open the kitchen door to air the place out a bit. This morning, the house still smells of smoked bacon! I have several candles burning, used windex all over the counters in the kitchen and can sitll smell it. Geez, I like bacon, but, how do you get the smell out? Any idea, other than time?

I agree with the vinegar idea...baking soda and vinegar clean and deodorize just about anything. Simmering cinnamon and cloves in a pan of water on the stove helps too.

Oh, yeah! Cinnamon and cloves on the stove! That's a good idea as well! Thanks a lot!

Wow, you're lucky that's all he did was 'fog' up the house. :) Try vinegar. Get out a couple of small dishes and pour some vinegar in and leave them in various spots throughout the house. You can also get a small spray bottle and fill with vinegar and maybe a little water. Spray that through the air here and there. The vinegar smell doesn't linger and its a great natural air freshener. I use it all the time. I spray it in the bedroom after we get out of bed, spray it in the bathroom, in the kitchen after cooking, after the kitties go potty, you name it. Cheap, non-toxic, and effective!

Excellent idea! Come to think of it, I have heard of vinegar used like that before. I'll have to get a new spray bottle (or two) while out today! I could leave one in the cat bathroon and one in the kitchen and one in the other bathroom! Thanks for the tip!

It probably went through the entire house. Get some Febreeze to spray on soft surfaces (carpets, rugs, curtains, furniture). That should help! My daughter did this one time. I was at work when my phone rang. When I picked up the phone, I heard this really loud, ungodly noise blaring! My daughter was about 13 then. She said, "Mama, how do you turn this darn smoke detecter off?" Well, I think I almost passed out! I said, "Jennifer, why is my smoke detector going off?" Everyone in the office took a deep breath! lol She had followed her home economics teacher's advice and put the bacon in the oven...but on too high of a heat! lol Yep, that took about 7 years off my life I am sure!

Cheryl, that is hilarious! I'm sure it wasn't very funny at the time, though. Glad the story had a happy ending!

It appears I am not the only one with a story like this. The house smells like warm candles now. I do have the off brand frebreeze. I'll spray that too. I'll bet you had a heart attack when you got that call! Thanks!

Everyone else has given you great ideas. Our dining room door to the porch is the one we open when we have "fog" incidents and that helps a whole lot as it kind of sucks out the smoke, then we turn on the ceiling fans and the fan above the stove. You'll have to cook something else today with a very nice fragrance to offset the bacon smell. I know - bake brownies! (Chocolate cures everything.)

Good idea to bake sweets of some kind. I may have the ingredients for brownies. It's not so bad now, I accidently left candles burning while at the store, oops! But, all is well and the house smells nice again :)
