Changing standards for enjoying a movie.

When I was a bit younger, I would look at a movie and criticize it. This is impossible, that is unreasonable, why didn't they think to do this. In fact, I would drive my now-wife then-girlfriend crazy. In particular, the lousy logic of time travel was a problem. But, that seems to have changed. I still now that the concept is ludicrous sometimes, but I'm more willing to just be still and go along with the movie. Sometimes, I can find something to enjoy even in a ridiculous movie. For example, Dragon Wars was -- all and all -- not very well written from my point of view. In particular, it seemed the hero of the story was just drawn along with it. That he wasn't really a hero, just pushed around by the plot. Anyway, that's not my point. The point is that I focused instead on the parts that I could enjoy. Like the CGI of the dragons, which was cool. What about you? Has your standards of 'good movie' vs. 'bad movie' changed over the years? Do you find yourself more critical, less critical? Do you have a particular problem (like my wife did) with people who pick apart a plot of the movie?

The fact is that most people go to a movie to be entertained. To have an escape. During the movie s NOT the time to pick it apart. There are some things that one has to look at and say"MOVIE". Because only in a "movie" would such things happen. Some time later if you want to shred it go ahead. But with the price of tickets these days, I'd just be selective. A good movie vs bad is different for each person. As an example I HATED "SPACEBALLS" others think it a terrific.

But some movies are just so bad. How can you *not* pick them apart. What was that movie? BATS. I saw this movie BATS and it was the most horrible thing! You want to go to the producers and say, "How did you not know this was a bad movie?" Of course, I guess I have developed an ability now to understand that campy movies are supposed to be campy. Perhaps if I hadn't seen BATS before and was watching it now I'd laugh at it instead of become disgusted.

I guess I am this way to an extent. I never really thought about it, but I rarely think any kind of movie that isn't comedy can be any good. Then I will watch it, and get into it, and say, I guess that was pretty good. And then, it does really annoy me when someone will say, that isn't possible. When even though we know it isn't, we just need to focus on the plot. But the one thing that I really get a kick out of is mistakes in movies. The cup was there, now it's gone, it's back again, as in the background of a scene. Or how about when the moon is seen out of two windows that are facing different directions. I just laugh, and feel pretty good that I caught it.
