Digital Video Recorders: Any Suggestions?

I don't know the first thing about digital video recorders but I would like to get one for my fiance for his birthday. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

I don't know a whole lot about them, but I think they come with some cable boxes. Perhaps you can call your cable company and be able to get the dvr through them. That's how my buddies and my girlfriend have it: through the cable company. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks! I'm so technically challenged, I called it the wrong thing. I meant to say a digital camcorder--(not a dvr) lol....Anyway I didn't know what to buy so I just read a ton of customer reviews and wound up getting a panasonic. So far, so good!!!
