Do you agree? Susan has Bette's range. She has played everything from a fiancee to a outlaw and everything in between. She is a strong willed woman on and off scene. And besides , she has Bette Davis eyes.

Personally, I never really cared for Bette Davis, who was number 2 in female screen legends, according to the AFI. Maybe because I never cared for most of the movies in which she starred. The one that left the greatest impression on me, probably becaue I first saw it when I was a young girl, was "Whatever Happened to BabyJane." She truly scared me in that movie. I have since seen her older movies, when she was much younger, and do agree that she is a marvelous actress, I just found the movies boring, hard to keep interested in them.
On the otherhand, I think the true Queen of acting is and always will be Katherine Hepburn, AFI's number one screen legend among females. She did drama, lots of comedy and always had great chemistry with her leading actors, of course, the love of her life Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, Bogie, John Wayne...just to name a few. I can watch Kate's movies over and over again, but not Bette's.
If I had to compare Susan Sarandon to one of the above mentioned actresses, it would be Kate. Susan is an outstanding actress, in both comical and dramatic roles. I don't remember too many, if any, comedic roles from Bette.
One of my all time favorite actresses from awhile back is Olivia DeHavilland. Actors of today can actually thank her for standing up to the big shots in movie making as she fought and won the right to make movies for other company's. She had hutspa (sp) and was truly a tough lady. And, oh yeah, a fantastic actress!!
Sorry I got off subject, but I do think Susan is our generation's Kate Hepburn.

Kate is great but Susan is Too sexy to be the new Kate.I am sorry you don't like Bette. I just saw her in All About Eve, my favorite role of hers, and she was dramatic, funny , sexy and devious.Everything that makes Bette great.

Devious is a great word to describe Bette Davis, in her roles.
I think Susan is also much more sexy than Bette. Although today's movies are not nearly as censored as Bette's era of moviemaking.
I will have to look for All About Eve on TCM or AMC and give Bette another try.
It's odd, but now I have a hankering to watch The Quiet Man. I also love Maureen O'Hara. Her and John Wayne had such great chemistry in their movies.

I never thought of her having "Bette Davis Eyes", but now you mention it she certainly does. There are similarities, but at the risk of being controversial, Susan Sarandon for all her tough-minded independence is tangibly warm. That's not to say that Bette Davis wasn't; because in her private life there is evidence that she could be very soft-centred, but in terms of the image that has become fixed in the public imagination, she radiated a kind of imperious magnetism that is virtually unequalled in the history of motion pictures, although of course as you say that is only partly the truth given her range and she had a long and highly varied career. In terms of range, yes, I would agree with what you say. Bette Davis is an all-time Hollywood legend, which Susan Sarandon isn't, that is not yet...but who knows, in time...

Yes it is hard to be the Queen. Susan is as close as we will ever come to Bette in this generation.

She may have played a lot of different roles, but I don't feel she has range in terms of actually being good in them.
