What means do the people in your area make a living at? here the majority of earnings is from farm related industry - meat raising, dairy, and crops. then I suppose the hospital is the second largest industry and likely walmart the third.

Aot here is tied into farming too...then the service industry and hospital. We now have the onocology department at our hospital for Mayo. It's a big bonus to the town.

Most of the people around me are used to the car parts plants and the support companies (places to eat, theatres etc). $30/hr was not uncommon. With the decline of the auto industry people are fighting to keep the plants open with little avail. In this day and age there is no such thing as job security. I am so glad I am old enough to have a work ethic but young enough to no there will be no social security when I get older.

In our area, most people earn a living by fishing since we are residing near the sea. Most often, fishermen pass by near our house after a days catch. Its very nice actually since I have access to freshly catch fish most of the time and its cheaper. Usually when they reach the market, the prices go up.
