Why do politicians like to have their picture taken holding and kissing babies?

For the life of me I could never figure this one out! As far back as I can remember (and that's very far!) people running for office and even those already in office love to grab the first baby they see...pick it up...kiss it....hug it and the whole foolish thing...as far as I'm concerned it's foolish anyway. Everyone loves kids and especially babies so what is the big deal with the politicians? Have you ever known anyone who's parents said so and so held them when they were running for whatever?

Oh, so pitiful indeed! They will use those innocent ones to be their angels selling some popularity!
It makes a bad day worse, but anyway, good ones will still make their journey meaningful!
Let's still pray for the best to be seen!

There is nothing on earth more innocent than a baby, so these old Geezers try to get pictures of themselves with babies to show they have a soft side. With most of these politicians, I wouldn't want their lips anywhere on my child, they have kissed too many A^^es already, so they can keep their lips to themselves LOL.

I have never understood this either. I suppose it is to give the impression I love your child and will take care of his/her future!! Although it may be a little more believable if the politicians' facial expressions did not deny this. Some look as if they think the child is going to explode in their face. LOL

they are trying to let the public see how good and kind they are, they are showing they are family oriented, they do it for show..They are running for office and that baby they feel makes them look good...Some of them go to some countries and sit with the hungry and poor, and they feel this will make you think how good and kind they are...after they get elected yu don't see them sitting among the poor and needy or holding babies...They are running ,and want your vote, and will do whatever it takes to get it...

IN my opinion I think that it is foolish as well. I would not want any stranger kissing my baby no matter who they were. But I guess it is a stragetic move let everyone see a softer side of them. who knows.

Because they want to show people that they are concern and sincere based on being a sincere parent..but we dont know what they are like at home we dont watch their moves or maybe they sometimes beat their kids without us knowing.Just to have a good record in their names to have that power and to make people believe

This baby kissing thing gives politicians a real family image. They want to appeal to families which are most of their consituents. Thereby by providing a family loving image, they kiss & hug babies. It's silly really, because I dont think it reflects their real personalities at all.

Politicians don't necessarily love babies, they love the publicity it affords them. Most people love a cute little baby. When they see the politician holding the baby, it makes them seem loving, dedicated, and honest. And all that other stuff they are trying to fool the voters into believing.

It's just a ruse to make them look good or even better. I don't think it's a thing of them liking babies but that it makes them look like a good person and doing a good deed by reaching out to a baby, meaning, it's our future.

I dont know why they do it either, I remember when I had my first child and I was in hospital quite a while before his birth and a while after and when he was born and about a day old, a politician visited the hospital and the ward I was on and zoomed straight towards me and my son. He asked to hold him, and I said yes it was fine. To be honest with you I knew he was a politician but at 18 didnt know much more than that! Well I remember telling my mum and dad who thought it was quite good, but when my nan found out, well she was disgusted! Fancy letting him hold the baby and she was quite rude about him and I cannot repeat what she said but it was not very nice!

There is a saying "That if kids and animals like you you can't be all bad". I think that is why the politicians like to kiss babies. It make them look more human and caring. Have you seen the latest Hillary commercial with the kids and the phone in the white house? it make it appear that she would know what to do to protect the kids. Babies are so appealing that you can't miss with them

LOL! I beg to differ on what you say, ctry. It is not true that everyone loves babies -or kids, for that matter. Some people actually cannot stand kids, causing us doting parents and grandparents to wonder how in the world that could be. The politicians like to cuddle babies simply because it shows their human side. They figure it will make them more electable if they present themselves as family-oriented, for some reason.
