Before buying any book...

Before buying any book, do you research on anything about the book or the author? Do you ask other people if they have read the book already and ask for their opinion about the book? Or do you just buy the book you are interested in anyway?

I usually do some research and read some reviews before buying a book. If I am familliar with the author than I just go in a bookshop and buy it. And if I have read some other book of the same series, something like Lord of the Rings than without hesitation I would buy the next book of the same series because I already know what am I getting.

Generally I buy books from authors that I know of, especially those I have read before. When I go into bookshops there is often things saying 'if you liked this author give this one a go'

I rarely ever buy books. We go to our local library at least once a week. We borrow books, movies and magazines from there. It saves us a lot of money since we all love to read.

I usually surf the internet for something that I think I'd like but then again, my book purchases are spur-of-the-moments.

It is important for me to have a background of that book and to get good reviews about that book from other sources. One that influences me a lot is if I hear a lot of friends talking nice things about that book. I usually buy books which I already read somewhere before. I want borrowing books and reading them first before buying them. I only buy those that I know are worth keeping.

I tend to by books by authors that I favor but, other than that, I usually read the summary and decide from there whether it is something interesting. Occasionally I will see an add for a book in a magazine and if I find it interesting then I will go out and get it. Sometimes, rarely, hype will get me to buy a book. An example of that would be "The Davinci Code" by Dan Brown.

I tend to read the same authors quite a bit and don't usually try a new author unless someone has recommended them to me. However, occasionally I'll pick up a book after reading the back cover because I think it sounds interesting...

Well, I don't buy books. I have the library litery right around the corner from me. So I just borrow any books I want to read from there. But I do ask around from my friends if they have read a book that I am particularly interested in. If I am just searching for something to read and nothing in particular I have a place I go and read about different books and what they are about. I also get things in the mail that want you to join their club and enclosed in those is a small description of some of the books they have available so I go through those to see if there are any books that I want to get from the library. I know you indicated about buying books but I thought I would give my way of determing what book I would be interested in and how I determine how to find out about the book.

No I just buy the book, usually I know the author or I've read a review somewhere. Friends do give me books or recommend them but I never ask them.
