There have been debates of who has better performance, cost, programming style, security, etc. I was thinking that Open source softwares could win the war, and if Im not mistaken Microsoft is already considering the open source stuff. What are your thought fellow mylotters.

I think it is not much on the fact that it is open source or licensed than the fact about the quality of the software itself. For instance, I have found a free software called StarOffice 8 by Sun/Java. It is similar to Microsoft Office with Word, Excel, Power Point, etc..., however Microsoft Office costs almost over $300 while the StarOffice 8 costs nothing, it is open source. Yet it is able to accomplish almost the same things as Microsoft Office. I think it is all about the software itself other than whether it is opensource or licensed. I know some programmers who make their own software for free and it beats the other similar software in which the software company receives money for. Personally, I try to stay away from Licensed Software unless I cannot find a similar Open Source or the Open Source software available is bad. -Feel Free to Disagree!

I guess where in the same route, the open source. Actually it is more of being practical, it's like why pay for a certain license software when there is equal open source software. I usually look for open source software, not just because it is free, you can edit the software to fit to your needs.
