It's All In The User Name - What's In Yours?

I'm sure I am not the first to start this discussion but I'm hoping to put a different spin on it. What does your user name mean, how did you pick it, and if given the chance today would you change your user name, and if you could, what would you change it too? And lastly, does your Avatar have any bearing on your user name? My user name was contrived of two of my most shining characteristics. When I received the invite to join this place I immediately thought to myself, how would one gain recognition on a discussion forum? By being cynical and outspoken of course! And there you have it! There was never any doubt as to what my user name was going to be and in the off chance that someone else had already picked it I would have just replaced cynical with sarcastic or one of my other finer attributes until I got one that worked. If I could change my user name today I think I would change it to CynicalHonestAndOutspoken, the only reason being is for those who don't shorten my name to Cyn, the normal shorten it to CAOS, or CNO, and if there was an H in there then my nick name could be CHAOS :) That would be just as fitting as Cyn is! And lastly, my avatar is my precious youngest daughter, usually making quite a face. It doesn't have anything to do with my user name but I find it mighty fitting. Especially the one I use of her sticking her tongue out! So how about you?

I chose mine because I forgot my name. I chose my avatar because I forgot her name and it suits me and her.

I was listening to the radio years ago when signing up for an email account. The song Lola by the kinks came on the radio. I thought it was a catchy tune and I always liked it. Thus, I have become lolalolacherrycola. I like the cynical and outspoken name you have given yourself, by the way! Toodles...

Every time I see you in one of my discussions I start singing LoLa to myself. And then I wonder if you are really a man! J/K! Your avatar takes the guess work out of that one for me.

Well I picked vivasuzi a long time ago in the internet world :) I was in Spanish at the time and viva means "alive" or "long live" so of course I want to be alive and live long :-D I also made this name b/c I figured no one else would use it first and 99% of the time it is available on sites I sign up for. Plus, there aren't any numbers on it making it easy to remember. I wouldn't change it, I like it. My icon is a kitty about to jump and surprise another kitty :) It just happened to be on my computer when I was registering. On most sites I change my icon all the time, but on mylot, I decided to leave it the same all the time b/c I find it easier to recognize ppl by the picture and if ppl change their pic a lot I forget who they are :) Plus, the kitty is like me, about to pounce and surprise someone else :)

My user name, .. lol sissypants.. Well i mean sissygrl.. I have been different variations of sissy since i was born to the net. lol well i think i picked it cause i was feeling like a sissy. I was depressed and scared of people, and never went outside, just stayed home on the net all the time! So i was a sissy. And.. then i was listening to a korn song, and in it it said Punk @ss sissy i'm a FREAK!! and then i took that as a sign, and became SISSY! That was on IRC. and then there was some guy that would hang out in Channel Adult diapers would take the name sissy when i got offline, so i would get his msg's sometimes and he would get mine, so i changed it to sissygrl, sometimes spidygrl. lol. i dunno why. My avatar is a tattoo that i want to get. I hope someday to get it. It fits me well i think.. cause its a dragon, on the outside its kinda cute and femine, but also if your not carefull i can BREATH SOME FIRE!! *giggles* Hi cyn ;)

I like your avatar. lol But I suggest using some mouth wash ;) Every time I hear someone say the word sissy I always put it in slyvester stallones voice. Instead of ADRIANNNNNNN I hear him yelling SISSSYYYYYYYGRLLLL. I need a nap. Hi back :) And to answer a question from forever ago, no I haven't seen angel.

What a neat topic!! You know.. the first couple of times I read some of your responses, I wasn't quite sure why you picked your name. But know that I have has a chance to read more and get to "know" you better.. I can see it fits. That's not a bad thing. I love your openness and honesty and no holds barred responses I have seen. You remind me of a girlfriend of mine... who when I first met.. NEVER thought I could like... but we are the best of friends now... even if we don't, can't, or won't agree on the subject matter at hand. I wish more people were like that :) I like to think that I am very intelligent. (OK OK I AM!!) But.. like ALL people.. no matter what their hair color.. I ALWAYS have blond moments. So I began making fun of myself..(because if you can't make fun of yourself, you have no sense of humor) and one day about 10 years ago, when I got my first computer and started surfing the web.. dizzblnd (or some variation) was one I always used. It was easy to remember, so.. I still use it to this day. As for my avatar... wellll... YOU be the judge ;)

My Username is actually my Grandma's middle name, and the 35 comes from the year she were born. She meant a lot to me so I wouldn't change it... Most likely if she were still living my name would be something like...Intricate_She or something lame like that... As for the avatar...Well it was just a cool pic on my pc...

I was just wondering the other day why you didn't put 'honest' in your user name...lol Mine's pretty boring and simple...'S' is the first letter of my first name and Viswan is my surname. And yes, my avatar actually depicts the meaning of my first name...that's why I haven't changed it yet. If I come across another picture of my first name, that I like...I might change it.

That may be simple but it's not boring. You have a beautiful first name. I didn't add honest to my user name in the beginning because the one I did choose is long enough to type into the login box. lol

Hi Cyn! My username is the acronym for my daugther, TRINity ALExus. I purchased a domain name of the same and use it for signing up with many programs. For myLot purposes, had I known, I would have used EdGause as my user name to go with the avatar. Being a part-time internet marketing, I prefer using my name and pic to let folks know I'm a real person trying to make it online. Now before I get slammed, I'm not saying people who use avatars are not real. Bottom line, I just think that if you're doing business and basically trying to get people to part with money, you need to do as much as you can to let them know you are legit... Cheers, Ed

Your daughters name is beautiful. I also agree that there is something about avatars of real every day people instead of pictures or cartoons that make me feel more connected to the one doing the writing. Thanks for your response.

Hi Cyn, My user name is pretty simple, its just my first initial and part of my last name. I threw in the two to help insure that nobody else has the same user name. I've been useing this name since I first started cruising the web back in 95 so it kind of stuck with me. As for my avatar, its just something I picked out that I like. Take care, Terry

My user name is Moneyandgc. When I signed up I figured this was just another moneymaking site. It stands for Money and Giftcards. If I could, I would change it to something more personal, but I have no idea what it would be. My avatar is a picture of me. My husband took it with a red filter on. We are at the Toys R Us in New York City. We are on the escalator. This was the first time we had every been to NYC and it was the day after Thanksgiving. It was a very cold 29 degrees! We moved from the south and were FREEZING but had so much fun!

Well, the meaning behind my user name is - it's just my first and middle name. I have no idea what I'd change it to. I do have other usernames that I use around the net. sunshine429 - my dad used to call me sunshine and 429 is my birthday - April 29. keldi - just a smoosh of my name. kdsun1963 - first and middle initials and my birth year. My avatar is just me. Geesh! I'm really boring. LOL!

It's ok. At least your avatar isn't offensive to look at ;) I just allowed my daughter to make her own email account. She chose AshRose427. (first part of her first name her middle and her birthday) I guess there is something to be said for keeping it simple.

I chose my user name because it is a nickname i was given by a boyfriend who was also my first love as he was six foot and i am only five feet two. The number is my partners and one of my sons favorite number. As for my avatar it is because i love fairies and i collect them and also my daughter helped me pick it.

Mine is simple. Chrissie at university, even though I am still not sure whether I should use at or in. The reason is simple too. Generally, chrissie has already been picked and I have to add something. And I began to use this name in the first year of university and then I thought of it. If I had another chance, I will still use this one. Because I use it in almost every web and so it is easy to remember.

I was seeing all sorts of ethereal type user names like rainydawn, reddragon, double diva, something or other goddess etc. You know the way it goes. So I tried to think of something along those lines that I could make tongue in cheek...it had to be something along 'mystical' lines. Say 'mystical' again...slowly. LOL. Get it? And I had the pic of my avatar saved in my documments and the two went together so fabulously. Don't you agree? 'The above excerpt from the autobiography of a self confessed internet addict...non other than our very own, much loved, MsTickle!!!'

I have always called you Ms. Tickle. Never mystical but now that you explain it I LOVE IT! Great work. And I also love the Cheshire cat.

Well my username is pretty self-explanatory if you spend a couple minutes and think about it. All of my SN's are kind of the same like that, I like to keep it simple, anyways! First part:Louie. Obviously that means my real name. Second part:WpHs. It's the highschool I went to. I would make a new one for the college i'm going to, but it doesn't really have a good ring to it. Third part:04. Most people seem to think that it's my graduation year, which it's not. It's actually the day of my birthday, August 4th. Do I want to change my username? Nahh. I like it just the way it is, :) No need to change something if I enjoy it just how it is, :P

Thanks for the explanation. I would have guessed that the Louie was your first name. Either that or you are an Anne Rice fan and you think Brad Pitt made an awesome vampire. The HS I could have eventually gotten to be high school but the Wp would have thrown me off of that conclusion for a little while and I too would have thought that the 04 was your graduation year after thinking the HS was high school. But you're right. If it ain't broken don't fix it :)

Anne Rice fan? Not so much, lol. :P Yeah well I suppose only people I know personally off of Mylot would really connect the dots on that part "wp"

I am not very imaginative when it comes to thinking up names for myself, so my user name gemini rose is probably one of the best I have ever come up with. Gemini comes from my birthsign and the fact that I am a typical gemini, and rose is from the fact that I really like roses, only garden ones though not the false things you get in the shop. I dont have an avatar mainly because I didnt know what one was until I joined here and I have not got around to looking into it yet!!

3 Mar 08
I think I told you already that a long time ago my user name on eBay was gemini rose for EXACTLY the same reasons. lol You picked well if I do say so myself! I would look for an avatar of a beautiful red rose with a drop of blood coming off of a thorn for your avatar.
@gemini_rose (16264)

Yes I did remember you saying that. That is really strange isnt it? Thats a good idea for an avatar and I will have to look into it, it will be nice to have one instead of the little thing I have at the minute.

Hi cynicalandoutspoken! I love that name! It caught my eye from the first moment that I visited this site. My name,kitkatgal70,came from the name that my family and friends have always called me---Kit. That AND my love for siamese cats. KitKat....The 70 comes from the year 1970, the most influential time of my life. I have used the name KitKat many many times over the years. On CB (aw geeze remember THAT??). And on other sites, too. I have always loved being called Kit so I will always use that. Maybe a variation from time to time, but the Kit will always be there. Oh, my real first name is Pam. I like KIT a whole lot more! This is a really cool topic, too.THANKS!! Peace kitkatgal

And here I thought it was a love for the candy bar and the year you were born. See how easy it is to make assumptions. lol Yeah I remember the CB. I was rainmaker. I would retell the story of why but I don't want to end up with a mature content tag on here ;)

My user name comes from a very special thing that happened in my life. I met a man who is strong, confident, helpful, kind, considerate, encouraging, enjoys helping others, believes in the armed forces (of which he is a member) - and so much more - and a Bond formed between us. This bond allows us to Feel one another, though he is in another country. It allows us to Sense one another...when we're sick, when we're angry, when we're happy or sad, or just about anything. There is also a heirarchy in our relationship. If you read my name right, I shouldn't have to tell you directly what it means. You'll get the idea. Although, don't get the wrong idea. It is, I am certain, not at all what you are thinking. :smiles:
