back at my daughter's from the scrapbook retreat in Virginia Beach, will be headed home tomorrow. It was a great time, got a lot of scrapbooking done, and learned about new techniques and products. We had a lot of fun and little sleep, lol. The crop room was opened until the last cropper headed to bed. We're already planning to go again next year! We had work tables next to the window over looking the beach and ocean. Our room was only two doors down from the crop room, with a balcony overlooking the ocean. I won a gift pack for one of the contests, and my daughter won one of the door prizes. The vendors were all great about explaining new products, and letting us try products that we hadn't tried before. So, would I recommend it......you bet. Anyone interested in learning more or any questions, just drop me a message.

I would love to go to a retreat like this. My daughter lives in Richmond (well two of them) so it would be easy to get to one. I would really love to lean how to some embossing...I think that looks so cool! My friend use to use a curling iron to create the raised affect, but I can never get it right..maybe I could learn to do that technique at one of these scrap booking retreats!!

I have never been to a retreat that I didn't learn a new technique. And found new products to use. It's a great way to meet other scrapbookers, and learn from them also. Check out the Sunshine (scrapbook) Meetup Group on yahoo, they are the ladies that host the retreats in Virginia Beach. There is also a listing on there of other scrapbook groups in the area.

What's the name of the organization that runs it? What hotel was it at? I've been looking for a scrapbook retreat and although I saw a bunch in VA that were interesting I didn't see any right on the beach and that would be nice. How many pages did you and your daughter get done while you were there? How many people would you say there were total?

I will have to leave you a message with all the contact information, which I'll have to call my daughter for (it was a birthday present to me from her so she has all that info). However, there is another one planned for the end of Feb 2009, and I believe they were thinking of having one around October of this year. It was very nice having a room with an ocean view, as well as the crop room having a view, it was held at the Sandcastle Oceanfront Resort Hotel (they do have a website for the hotel). I actually got 14 12x12 pages done, about 8 8x8 pages done which is for an album I'm doing just of the scrapbook weekend, and started working on a chip board book. There was about 10 croppers there for the whole weekend, and there was about 5 that came just for the day on Saturday, it was a good group, not too large, which was nice since this was our first crop weekend. There was also 5 vendors, which made it nice, if you needed some little something or paper, and they were affordably priced products. They also had door prizes throughout the event, which was products from the vendors there.

Hey Castratton~The retreat "palonghorn" came to last month was one my company (Sunshine Virginia Beach Scrapbook Retreats) puts on. I think her daughter actually found us on the Hampton Roads Craigs List of all places - LOL.
Info about our scrapbooking weekends can be found at: http://scrapbook.meetup.com/1911/ or http://vbscrapbookretreats.blogspot.com
Basically our weekends are just a group of 25-50 ladies (mostly who don't know each other at all) who enjoy scrapbooking. Our ladies like having an entire weekend to keep their stuff out in the Scrapbook Room and not have to pack it up each day. And it's always great to have someone else do all the cooking and cleaning all weekend. Ladies at our weekends just enjoy scrapbooking! And that GORGEOUS oceanview from the Scrapbook Room is just a bonus!
Let me know if you'd like more info!

You are so lucky!!! I haven't had my scrapbooking fix in a while... I usually go to a scrapbook weekend once or twice a year, but didn't get to go in the fall as I usually do... Now, I won't be able to make the Spring one either, so it will be almost two years since I've gone!!! *cry!!!*
I get so much work done at the weekend events because I try to have all my pictures already cropped and a lot of my layouts already picked out. Then all I have to do is arrange the pictures, paper and stickers and I'm all set!
I'm glad you had such a great time!

I did have the forethought to pick out pictures and cardstock and such, so I did get a lot done, but I also scrap at home. It was great, it was a small group, but they were all friendly, and ones that had been doing it longer were more than happy to tell you about products and what their opinion was of different products. There was also a table set up for anyone to use several products, which I'll be buying 2 of the products I tried lol. If you are interested I can notify you, there is one being planned for October of this year, and another for the end of Feb 2009.

It was so much fun, and being it was with my daughter, we had a blast. Not much sleep but a lot of fun. And the other women that were there were wonderful about sharing techniques and products they use. It's really great if there are products you have be wondering about but aren't sure if you want to buy, they had different things set up at a table for everyone to use. Needless to say, I'll be spending some money at Micheal's and AC Moore when I get home! lol Y'all will have a great time. They are making plans to have this one again next year, same place, and we're already planning on going!
