all you need to get rid of pesky ear mites is a few drops of corn oil applied into your cat's ear. Massage the oil into the ear and clean off with a cotton ball, do this once a day for 3 days - the oil not only suffocates the mites rendering them DEAD it will also give a healing and soothing coat to the cat's ears which is readily welcomed after having had irritating mites in there.

Oh I am going to do this one, thank you - we have 2 cats in the house that tend to have ear mite problems. I knew there was some oil that you could use but couldn't remember what it was, thanks bunches.

I am thinking there was another oil, not as common as corn oil, but can't think what it was.

Oh Modestah, I am so glad to read this. From time-to-time my cat ends up with earmites and I end up taking him to the vet. I bet you anything that the treatment he puts in his ears (and for which he charges me a bundle!) is nothing but a fancy corn oil put in a vetinary medicine bottle! Ha! I will certainly remember this the next time the poor animal gets some mites. It sounds much easier and cheaper than a trip to the vet!

oh I know those ear mite drops even without the vet diagnosis can damage the budget.
another tip is if your dog tends to get hot spots - apply some A&D diaper rash ointment (not the zinc oxide kind) to the area and give infant benedryl type elixir.

Oh wow, you are just a wealth of information! I have a wire-fox terrier who is very active. In the summer months he is prone to itching and scratching due to heat. Again, I go to the vet and he gives me some pill to 'calm' him and an ointment. I will certainly try this first this summer! Do you have any idea how much of the benadryl elixer? He weighs a little under 9 pounds.
