Lately I"ve been practically inhaling Nora Roberts books-can anyone recommend a favorite of hers? Other authors I've enjoyed include James Michener, Elizabeth Peters (who would not LOVE Amelia Peabody??), Sue Grafton's alphabetical series, Lillian Jackson Braun's Cat Who books, and oh my gosh who wrote those Mrs. Pollifax books? I still think they should have made those into movies! I can't possibly be the only one to enjoy these, c'mon and fess up, people!

I am a very picky reader but my Favorite by far Author is Tad Williams, he's both Sci fi and fantasy writer, depending on what book you read of his. I love Tamora Pierce because she has some very nice works. All of them are about heroines. So if you don't like feminists' don't read her books lol. I also Love J.K. Rowling. Yes the Harry Potter books were all fantastic and I can't wait to read anymore books she comes out with! I love Jean M Auel's Earth's children books, they are a nice read and George RR Martin's series called A song of Ice and Fire.

Jean Auel was guilty of what publishers call "info dumping" - padding her books with large amounts of unadulterated research materiel thinly disguised as descriptive passages. Don't get me wrong, I've read and enjoyed all of them (apart from the last one) but I get irritated by the long descriptive passages especially when she starts to repeat descriptions.

Nothing wrong with being a picky reader, you are investing your time in the story, and time is precious as we all know. My idea of heaven is huge library, no fines, and unlimited time to read! Since you like fantasy, I wonder if you've read CS Lewis?

I tend to skip the parts that repeat themselves lol. I'm a bad person for doing that i suppose, buuuut heck if it does make a book a bit better then I will. :) I really enjoyed her books though, I've read them all cept the last only because I haven't had the time. I have the book. just never bothered to read it, and now i want to read the other's all the way through but I've been busy. I suppose not everyone can like certain types of writing.

I love Nora! I always look for her new ones and read them as soon as they come out. I love her MacGregor series, the Key series and the Chesapeake Bay series. Here's a site that list all her book by year they were published: http://www.noraroberts.com/booklists.htm I have no idea how she writes so many books in such a short amount of time! She has 11 new ones coming out in 2008 alone!

I had no idea either, gosh how does she even DO that? It's a whole new take on the Book-A-Month club...hmmm. Thanks so much for the link! Is the Key series the one about Three Sisters Island?

Karen Kingsbury books are my favorite right now. I have bought almost all the books and have them in a pile as I go through them one by one. I was at a book store and saw on a little table a few chosen books with little reviews written by the staff members. The staff member wrote, as per usual another Kingsbury book I just could not put down. Needless to say my housework falls way behind when I am reading one of her books. I thought this is the book for me! I bought it and sure enough I needed to go buy another one of her books. That day at the book store it was a strange scene at least I thought so. There was chubby me basicly standing in the middle of this small book shelf. On one side of me I had a little old lady who was browsing wondering if Kingsbury had written anything new. Set back was another lady I assumed to be a bit older then me reaching her arm between us grabbing for a book. On my left was a young girl 12 and her mother looking to see if the Kingsbury book they wanted was on the shelf. Two teenagers were standing at the corner of the shelf holding Kingsbury books and chatting about how much they loved the books. I almost got struck in the face as I turned my head and another women was reaching for her book choice. I was so shocked I started asking questions. Like excuse me I am new to reading these books. Is anyone else new to reading them and do you think they are all good or just some. Everyone at once practically was assuring me oh my gosh yes, once you start reading them you won't stop. So right now my two daughters and I are reading the books. My one daughter read one complete series in about two weeks and as started on another series. Has anyone else on here read the Karen Kingsbury books?

Sure and I'll be glad to share a cuppa coffee w'ye...Karen Kingsbury is totally a new name to me but I will be sure to look for her. What genre/s? It does sound like she is appealing to a wide range of readers! And golly, my housework is already way behind, so what have I got to loose? PS...would you like some flavored creamer? grins, cryllie

I love the Sue Grafton series. I am hoping to read and collect them all. Another one of my favorites is Rosamund Pilcher. Her books are love stories but what I like about them is they don't go the usual route of boy meets girl in chapter one and by chapter 2 they are in bed. I have everyone of the Rosamund Pilcher books. I just love to read.

We must be kindren (Kinsey) spirits, then...actually my favorite source for new books is GoodWill, you just can't beat their prices, and the treasure hunting is always kinda fun. I've found NR and Mary Stewart, and others, in practically mint condition, with dust jackets intact and uncreased, for $1.49! And I do agree with your aversion to long descriptions of beddings! Just fast forward and leave the characters some privacy already, lol.

I think Colin Forbes don't write fast enough for me *grin* Other authors would be Elizabeth Peters (yes, who wouldn't love Amelia Peabody?). I can't remember who wrote Stone Barrington novels but I love his books and recently I am head over heels with John Deanver, he is one mean writer, keeping the suspense all the way to the last page! You gotta love him for that wicked streak.

Colin Forbes and John Deanver are new names for me, what genre do they favor? I love murder mysteries but not the ones which describe the process in great bloody detail...I like the classic whodunnit, I guess, Agatha Christie was always good for mental exercise. Stone Barrington rings a faint bell, let's hope someone else can Name That Author! grins, cryllie

My favorite authors are John Grisham, Stephen King and Michael Crichton. Though I also enjoy a romance novel every now and then, like something by Nicholas Sparks. I have enjoyed a few James Patterson books, though that genre is not my favorite.

Glad to meet another Nora Roberts fan. I didn't see any responses mentioning NR's "Carolina Moon." I was very surprised at the ending and highly recommend it. Other authors I like in different genres are John Grisham, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz.
