Stepping on escaped cat litter

March 2, 2008 9:58pm CST
If you are like me then I am hoping you will share my annoyance at that loose cat litter that seems to escape from the tray waiting for me to step on it in my bare feet. It is amazing how sore a tiny little bit of stone can hurt your feet when you are innocently heading into the livingroom to check your myLot account. It drives me mad. I am telling you, my Leo must have paws of steel to get in that box, stand there while peeing and then scrape it about. Maybe the reason that it ends up everywhere is because he actually hurting while trying to cover up his doosdoos. The worst thing about it is, I love my wee Leo but see as soon as I stand on that bit of escaped litter, I instantly remind myself that he is in fact not my wee kitty at all, he is actually the kitty or my 13 year old sister who I have not seen hold a sweeping brusg in her hand in months.

Perhaps one way to remedy this situation would be a catgenie self flushing cat litter box!It is a bit expensive but it is definitely worth it imo!just type cat genie in your search engine and it will come up and you can even see in a demo video how it works. You hook it up to your cold water in your bathroom or laundry room.i have been told they are available at walmart too but not for sure.If anyone has tried this let me know what you think of it please!

That is ridiculous. I can't imagine my wee Leo using that. I think it would freak him out. He isn't good with technology and would probably end up sticking his wee paws in it while it was washing. I can see though that it has its benefits but I don't think the cat would like it.

Yes,i suppose it may scare some cats!i called the company and they said that if you start out using it when cats are young 6 to 8 moths old there is usually no problem!

My humans never have this problem with me, get yourself a lovely canine friend instead. A dog loves you - a cat tolerates you. Give a dog a nice bed, two or 3 meals a day, a pat on the head and a few walks it thinks your god. Feed a cat - pat its head (if it will let you), and a nice bed - it thinks its god. Only drawback with a dog is walking it in the snow today, or all the rain last week, but I just shake my coat and drip dry quickly.

Yeah meanwhile I would be left with sodding wet hair and the bottom of my jeans full of dirt. I think I love my wee kitty too much to pap him off somewhere else and get a cat!

Stepping on loose cat litter is so disgusting...you don't know, while stepping, if the cat has peed on it or not! You're right, it hurts. It gets stuck on your feet, and we probably LOOK like cats scratching trying to get it off our feet!

Yeah cos I never want to touch it with my hands I end up going over to the carpet on the stairs and trying to rub it off with them. I probably look like him when he is trying to cover a poopy.

I had a cat for over 18 yrs, and so I know all too well about the pain you speak of! OUCH! In the last few years of Timmy's life, I was using the clumping cat litter instead. It didn't hurt to stand on it when some escaped from the box... but it did have that funny gritty feeling on bare feet, because it's basically sand. It's a no win situation, short of training your cat to use the toilet... something that CAN be done, but harder to do once the cats start getting older I imagine.

Well look at the link just above yours. You can now buy your own kitty toilet but as I said I don't think my Leo could adapt to that. He would probably just poop on the floor and that would be worse to stand on.

Been there, done that. I don't walk barefoot anymore. It wouldn't hurt if you were standing in the box with the rest of the litter, I'm sure, but I'm not going to test it! :) I clean my kitties' box every day, sometimes twice, and the area around it gets swept then too.

Yeah I think I should invest in a pair of nice comfy slippers. We did have a little that crumbled as soon as you stood on it but it meant when Leo left the litter box he would have bits of crupled litter all over his fur and it was horrible to think that he had bits of peepee and poopy in that. Lol.

Ha ha yes I can relate to this Claire. I have two cats who share a litter box. They have access to downstairs so luckily they don't use the litter tray too often. But when they do, they scratch and flick it everywhere. Last week, we had a house inspection. We're not supposed to have animals in our house so I took the cats to mym other's place for the day. I hid all evidence of the cats and that included getting a plastic knife and sitting down on the back deck, digging and flinging the kitty litter out from in between the floor boards! It took ages and it was very very annoying. I don't mind the pellets of recycled paper or lucern, but i hate the clumping litter that's little pieces of clay. i hate it! The cats bring it into the house and I'm forver standing on it and yes! It hurts!

Aye well lucky you that has it outside. I have the thing in my hallway outside the livingroom cos there is a wee gap that it fits under the stairs and I stand on it all the time and I know that as soon as I sweep suddenly he needs to use it. I am sure he does it to annoy me.

I've never walked on litter thankfully but I can't stand to walk on a floor that has crumbs or bits of dirt and stuff that crunch under my feet. It drives me nuts. I am forever either putting on socks or sweeping the floors. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~
