How much sleep do you get at night? Do you really get the required 8 hour sleeps? Is it important have 8 hours sleep? Are you a light sleeper or a bed hog? Do you find it hard to sleep? What makes you sleep easily? What keeps you awake all night? What is you sleeping habit? Can you go for days without sleeping? Do you sleep with lights on or off? There are lots of question about sleeping. It recharges our body. But with people's different lifestyle, culture, kind of work and orientation, sleeping pattern has drastically altered. I'm a light sleeper. I easily wake up with the slightest noise I can hear. And I want complete darkness. I also have interruptions in the middle of the night for a regular trips to the bathroom. I wish I can have a complete rest or 8 hours of sleep.

Sleeeep mmmmm As a mother to a very young child, it's hard to say how much sleep I get, I do tend to get 6-7 hours of sleep thankfully. I don't think it is that important to have 8 hours of sleep. I'm a very very light sleeper. If my son is awake I do find it extremely hard to fall asleep. I sleep with my lights off.

I understand your situation. Being a mom is a 24/7 job so sleep becomes a luxury now. And since you are the first one to reply to my post... I will mark you the best response. thanks and take care.

yes it does become one, specially when the little one is really sick or just fussy and wants to be held. :) but I don't like sleeping longer than the actual time I get, I feel i get a lot more done the longer I'm awake, as long as I have enough energy for it!

I have read some papers which says that the cry sound of a baby awaken its mother easily. I think you are in this situation and this is the hardest time to a young mother. Mother is the GreaT!!

As a woman suffering from Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorder, I need my sleep! I have gone through episodes where I could not sleep for days. My body was exhausted but my mind was awake. I tried everything and where pills usually affect me right away, at that time I could take sleeping pills and Benedril and nothing got me to sleep. I was a wreck as a result of it. Now I'm on Wellbutrin SR and for the most part I sleep pretty good but there are some nights that I have trouble sleeping. I just try to relax as best I can when I feel like this. Drinking something warm usually relaxes me or taking a warm shower of bath. Sometimes I put on the TV and watch it for a while or I will just turn over and close my eyes and try to clear my mind of everything. That helps a lot. One night when I couldn't sleep, I laid my head in my husband's lap and he played with my hair, which relaxed me and so, I soon fell asleep. I think sleep is very important and I think people should really try to get their full 8 hrs because even though you think that you are feeling great, really in actuality your motor skills are thrown off and it's especially dangerous to drive a these times. Plus, lack of sleep can affect so much more than just that. It can affect your appetite, your digestive system, your immune system, your thought process and reflexes. So, it's really important to get as much sleep as your body needs....

WOW that must be so frustrating. I hate that feeling when you wanted to sleep but can't get one. Or when everybody is already sleeping but you. It didn't only make me cranky the following day but feeling sick and nauseous. And yes, sometimes my husbands rubs my back or hair too and it relaxes me. It does help a lot. I hope you get a good night sleep tonight my friend. Thanks.

I sleep only about six hours a day, because I have a 12-hour work day. I'm also bothered by regular trips to the bathroom so I try not to drink anything before I go to bed. The difference between you and I is that I sleep like a log. I have two roommates who get up at 4am and get dressed, and I don't even notice them. I also sleep very quickly.

Good for you. And even if I don't drink before sleeping at night, I still have to get up for the trip to the bathroom. Sad huh. thanks.

I think you and I am the same kind of person. The difference between you and I is that I am a light sleeper. If you ofen bothered by regule trips, you should try to improve your sleep quality. In this way ,you can have a good sleep.

I think sleep is very important. After all, how else does our body recuperate? In the past, I used to sleep too little. Now I sleep too much. I guess part of it is to heal the damage caused in the past. The damage is too much so I keep sleeping lol.:P

I admire you... I also sleep for more than 10 hours in weekend. But less then 8 hours in working days. My problem is I am a light sleeper. Even after 10 hours sleeps I will feel sleepy in the day time....

i normally sleep for 8 - 9 hrs at nite. previously i used to work in a call centre where i was working nite shifts , but then my whole biological cycle got disturbed so i had to quit the job. I prefer sleeping at nite , but unlike u i like to keep the lights on as i feel scared of darkness.

I get 5-6 hrs sleep! Sleeping in would be 8...very rare. Now that my baby sleeps thru the night I get wakened by the cats and sometimes my 2.5 yr old has a bad dream. I don't go to bed till 11, and cats get me up at 4am. 10 month old is up at 6am. I sleep with the tv on low with Nick on. I like CMT but from 3-5 is infomercials and they wake me up. Worrying and the fact that my girls are usually still awake is what keeps me from going to bed earlier. They are nocturnal!

Sleeping is quite important for everybody. If you haven't slept for a few days, you will feel quite badly and it's likely to die. I go to bed late everyday as I only have my own spare time at night. So I have many things to do during at night. If one day I go to bed early, that means to say I am sick. Since it's late for me to go to sleep, so I have no problem to fall asleep in a short time:)

For me sleep is so important but unfortunately I'm not getting enough. I think I get about 4 to 5 hours a night and I wish I could get more, but that won't be until spring break starts.

How much sleep do I get?????? I'm not sure about that and I know that I did not get a required 8 hour sleeps maybe its because I'm a light sleeper and i alway find it hard to get to sleep espcially when I get up in the middle of the night to check on my kids. I wake up easily to slight noise like when my kids goes to the toilet, when rain......Just like you I wsih that I can have a complete rest of 8 hours of sleep maybe 2-3 times a week will be great.

I usually try to get at least six hours of sleep each night on average. If I get seven I'm doing just fine. If I get eight, that's awesome and about the best I can do (except on the weekends). However, when I stay up late at night I try to get a minimum of five hours. If I get any less than that, I can't function or stay awake the next day. It'll also make me feel sick! I hate having that feeling just because I didn't bother to get enough sleep. I know I need more. I used to consider myself a light sleeper, but when my fiance told me the next morning that he called in the middle of the night and I didn't hear it, now I'm convinced otherwise! (LOL) I think when I first go to bed, I'm a really light sleeper. I can't fall asleep if there's noise. I need quiet to fall asleep. However, in the middle of the night I'm so out of it and sleep so heaving I probably wouldn't hear a hurricane or even a train drive through my house! (I'd actually probably feel it before I'd hear it and have it wake me up!) I have to be comfortable to sleep easily. I don't have to sleep in my own bed to get a good night's sleep, but I like to feel comfy wherever I am. My sleeping habit is to curl up into a ball on my side at first. By morning, I'm all sprawled out. (LOL) Sometimes when I first go to sleep, I'll lay on my stomach with my face in the pillow. Right before I'm about to fall into a deep sleep, without fail I always roll over onto my side and fall asleep completely. It's weird, but that's how I'm comfortable! I can't fall asleep completely while laying on my face and stomach because I'll wake up with a kink in my neck! (LOL) I'm not one of those people who can go without sleep. If I don't have my sleep, I'm like a baby. I'll get really cranky! I have to sleep with the lights off, pitch black. I prefer it that way, although I can sleep either way. You mentioned that you have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I NEVER do that because I sleep so heavily. It interrupts my sleep also and I hate that! I'd rather just wait until morning and I've "trained" myself not to have to get up in the middle of the night unless it's an emergency, if you know what I mean. (LOL) I can sleep several hours straight from the time I lay my head on the pillow until my alarm goes off in the morning. Consider yourself lucky that you're a light sleeper. I've heard that being a light sleeper can save your life someday too! It's because in case of your house catching on fire or anything else that would happen in the middle of the night, you would know and be able to wake up in time. Great discussion!

I sleep 6 hours a day and it enough for me. But I always make sure my children sleep more than me. because children need to sleep more than 8 hours a day. For adult 6 hours sleeping is enough. I always sleep with dim light on.

I make it a point that I get an 8 hour sleep and that should be a night sleep. That was the reason I quit my call center job. I only got to sleep like 4-6 hours usually and even I had slept 8 or ten hours on a daytime I still felt so weak so, I figured, I needed to end my career as a night owl. And just like you, I prefer sleeping with the lights off.

Hi ruthinian, It seems to depend on the person, everyone don't need eight hours of sleep. I have no difficulty sleeping, but I never want more than 8 hours, I just can't seem to stay in bed any longer, usually it is less. I too, make at least one trip to the bathroom during the night. Blessings.

I never get 8 hours sleep a night, though I would love to. I'm an extremely light sleeper, so my partner simply has to roll over, and sometimes that's enough to wake me. I tend to suffer from insomnia, so if I have been lucky enough to fall asleep in the first place, I find that I'm unable to go back to sleep once I've woken. Even if I've been up until 4am or 5am, I'm awake by 7am at the latest.

I am a bed hog and i hardly can be waked up earlier no mater the light or the noise. i am a light sleeper, because that i have good spirit at evening.i always sleep after 12o'clock and get up till 10o'clock.I get the 8 hours'sleep.but not the good 8 hours'sleep.with science,it is said that it is good to sleep at 8 or 9 and get up earlier at 7 or 8.It is good for people's body.I seldom sleep days.i sleep with the lights on.I afriad of dark,i always image there are some ghosts in the shadow. Sleepping is so important for people expecially for girl or women.so now i go to sleep eariler, before 12:00,and get up before 9.i try to change my work and rest schedule.

rest and sleep are very important...as the body's fatigue of daily work kills the cells and they need to be build up...if not used proplery then this human machine will wear down very soon...even bible says this body is the temple of living god...so this body is on rent for this life's journey and we have to give an account of it 1 day when we stand before the judgment seat of god...so be careful how u handle it..it is not urs..it is god's...god bless you.

Recently I sleep for a few hours only, maybe 5-6 hours. Before, it's because a had a lot things to do, but now it's become a habit. I can't sleep with light on. It's hard for me to sleep, actually. But I feel OK.
