How do I clean suede?

Australia

My Mum bought a gorgeous suede outfit for my daughter when she was in Canada a few months ago but I am scared of letting my daughter (who is 3yrs old) wear it as I am sure she will get it dirty and I don't know how to clean it without ruining it. Can anyone help? I would really like to let her wear it as it is really cute.

you could clean it with a wet or damp cloth. what i usually do to make sure the stain goes away is add a little drop of detergent. that usually works well. when i waste something on there. i don't waste time trying to clean. i dont want it to stain my outfit. hope this helps.

A damp (squeezed almost dry) cloth will take care of most problems, but try brushing first... if the soil is dry, that will work wonders. Just be really careful what you give her or what she gets into when she's wearing it. Its not the most practical material for small children, but it looks wonderful. She should get a chance to wear it, even if its just for pictures... that way, you have the memory, and can see her in it all the time!

Thanks for your help. That is a great suggestion to take a photo of her in it. She grows so quickly that she'll soon grow out of it, so I'll have to get the camera out. I agree it's not very practical material. It is a pink skirt and vest with little white love heart patches and is so cute.

I know how you must feel losing your keepsake box. I lent most of my baby clothes from my first 2 children to a cousin who had twins and her house burnt down, so we lost everything except for a hand knitted shawl. I'm just glad that I didn't lend her that as well.

It sounds adorable! My Mom bought our first daughter a $40, hand-embroidered dress and I took several pictures. During a move, my keepsake box was lost, so having the pictures was a great thing. Oh... the dress was bought by my Mom over 40 years ago... and that was a LOT of money back then!
