this discussion is in regards to roofing. what type of roofing appeals to you (your senses, your finances, your weather?) clay, tar, asphalt?shingles, clapboard, tile, tin sheeting, thatch) do you have the kind of roof that is your preference? I find myself most attracted to the clay roof in textured red channels - We need a new roof, boy it was leaking last night with all the rain we were getting, but I think we will have to go with a tin roof for the cost effectiveness. I think a thatched roof has a nice look too - but I would think it is a good haven for bugs and molds.

Our roof has shingles and so does every house in our neighborhood. Or should I say they use to have shingles? In the past two years in paticular many houses in our neighbourhood are repplacing their 25 year old roofs with asphalt. I like how it looks actually but my husband is really dissapointed that every is doing that and wishes everyone would stay with shingles. What do you think is better asphalt or shingles if you only had those to choose from?

I am not much on the asphalt tiled roofs - that is what we have currently.

Clay roof sounds good. I bet you've already picked which type to replace your old roof by now. The type of roof to use mainly depends on the weather condition in your area and the type of your home. It is best to seek advice from professional roofing contractors when selecting the most suitable roof for your property. I like the quaint look of thatched roofs too but like you, I think they'd be full of bugs and molds. I don't care for the sheetmetal either. I do like the shingles and I saw a beautiful dusty blue color on a house just outside of town that is really nice looking. I think if I was ever in the position to have to replace a roof I'd go with shingles and something other then the plain old black. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

i've been thinking about this one lately myself-we have 2 lower roofs that need redone, both tin. i haven't decided whether to go again with tin,or have it tarred and gravelled. i would love to have a clay tile roof, but i think it might be too heavy for the structure.

We have a capecod that is going to need a new roof in the next couple of years. We have been looking at the Ondura roofs. Goggle them and they are the first listing. You can install it yourself, they will send you the installation guide if you just contact them. I saw this at Lowes a couple of years ago. According to them it is the last roof you will ever have to put on.

I guess we have the same liking for clay roof. Its kind of cool and somewhat give the house a good old fashioned look. Though I don't know if it is expensive compared to using other roofings. Nevertheless, it looks very appealing.

I like my shingles. They are easy to replace and not as costly as clay or shakes. I do like the looks of shakes but they are very expensive!
