If your name is on a credit card, but your exspouse has the card under their name..You can't close the account until it's paid off...however i was wondering if you have the right to deactivate the card so it no longer works, and ask them not to send out another??

If the account is under your name and your ex has a supplement credit card, then you can just call up the credit institution and get them to cancel out the supplementary. It usually takes effect immediately or up to 1 day.

well I believe the account is under her name, and his name was just on the account like a joint account - no supplement card was issued...She told him is was all good and it wouldn't affect him one bit (after the seperation, then the divorce) and she kept it open, and hasn't been making the payments, and is going onto his credit record making it worse - now i just want to see if there is a way he can put a stop to it until she makes the time to go with him to the bank to pay it off and cancel the card..

Oh so its like a joint account isnt it? I dont know for sure whether he can do it. But why not try calling the bank up and cancelling the whole credit card or the whole account. If a couple separated I think they should close off their joint accounts :)

Hmmmmm, I wouldn't know what to do exactly, but I guess I would call the bank and get some info from them. Good luck and I hope everything turns out well for you.
