Is Violent in Television shows, Movies and Video games really to blame for the increase of violence in North America nowadays or are there other more underlying causes that need to be brought forth as well?

I would disagree that movies, TV and video games are the CAUSE of violence. There was murder and violence far before the time of those technologies. The trouble with society is its love of scapegoats. People CHOOSE to hurt people. I have a hard time believing that domestic disputes are caused by RPG's. If everyone took responsibility for their own actions this world would be a better place.

While then cute pirate I agree with you that it is not because of TV and games but what do you think the source of this agression is?? do you believe that it is the current economic sitaution, the state of the nation, our pro-proloteriate thinking or do you think that it is something more? I would be very interested in a further elaboration on your thought!

It is proven that if a group of children ages 6-8 watch wresting for an hour and then are sent outside; their play is more aggressive then if the same group of children were to watch and hour of Sesame Street. However on the same note a group of adults ages 26-30 can watch wresting and not display the same physical agression in there behaviour. Here's my two cents. Parents need to take an active role in rearing their children. Start talking about appropriate behaviour when children are young and impressionable. Its simple. Repeat important points. " If its not yours don't touch it", "Hitting (kicking, punching, biting...etc.) is NOT okay". Reward good behaviour. Appropriately punish inappropriate behavior" Maybe that generation of kids that got smacked in the mouth when talking back are the same generation hitting their wives when they don't like what was said. It's something to think about.

I don't think there is a direct correlation. Good that you brought this up because I was thinking whether there is a study that was conducted to determine if violent entertainment and violence in NA are directly related. Although, I have seen an increasing trend in gore in almost all types of entertainment and violence in the US is steadily increasing. However, more than anything, I just think that there would be less violence if each one of us start to improve the dynamics of relationships with our own families. It would also be best if schools do a periodic psychological exam among childred so that proper intervention maybe given for children or students with problems or tendencies towards violence.

I agree I do not believe that violence on TV or movies is wholly to blame though I think it deserves its part of the pie as well. As per the above stated statement it does sometimes plant an idea but an idea that most people should know better than to do to begin with I would personally give it like a five percent fault. I think that the real underlying issues are found as is also stated above in the total education of the average person today that reinforced familly values and teachings as well as schools are to blame... but I would also only myself anyways give that about fifty five percent. In my opinion I think the growing distance in the income levels also has a major effect. Over the past ten to fifteen years there has been a gross disapearance of the middle class some moving up but many more moving down. This is leading to a growing number of crime syndicates or gangs who in there primary function provide something that all people search for a sense of security and stability. Gangs operate a lot like famillies used to they provide positive reinforcment (from the other members), finances, protection and fun. They very well may be the downfall for the western world!

I think violent videos and movies and games have a significant role to play but is not the sole region. There's upbringing, friends, situations, enmity, failures, personality, etc etc that also have their part

I think people try to do like their superstar do, and so whether its a motor bike stunts or stealing money or even making violence. Everywhere you can see the effect of cinema can be directly seen to the viewers.
