What's the Most Important Element in Having a Nice Working Environment?

What do you think? In my opinion, I think it's the people. If the people are nice, friendly and helpful, I would be very happy to work in that place. Otherwise, I don't tend to care what the company offers.

the working atmosphere is very important. if your boss you are working with is hard to work with then it goes the same for the people above your boss. i have noticed that on my last job a few weeks ago. if the company's management is lousy then it is not worth working for the company.

True! The chemistry with the boss is really important and yes it's really hard with work with someone who doesn't know what they really want!

I think that is an important factor when the person is single or doesn't have that many responsibilities in life... but for some... nice, friendly, and helpful people are only like a third factor... since they need more money and benefits for their family to survive... I myself would tolerate rude co-workers if my pay is more than enough for my family... i would just ignore those people and do what i have to do at work...

Decent pay is definitely important! I wouldn't work at all if I am not offered anything decent *smiles*.

For me the most important element is honest and professional bosses and coworkers. Next is having a private office. The third is having a private office with a window.

Oh private office sounds really nice especially I got a complain from my fellow colleague that I sounded a bit too loud when I was on the phone. But gosh, I mean we only have partitions and everyone hears everyone's conversation, and I don't think I am exceptionally loud (I was on the phone like 3 times a day only). Well, I think I got complained because I am new there! Silly people! So now, a private office sounds really good to me!

Yes I am from Hong Kong and of course I remember you! Yes HK people are under a lot of pressure and we impose the pressure on others too, that's mostly because we always work overtime and under tight deadlines!

I agree with you and that is the hardest thing to assess. You can't very well ask during an interview if everyone gets along with everyone or if someone there is a royal pain to everyone! Take care

Right and no matter how nice the culture is, there is always someone who like to destroy the harmonious environment! It's just a percentage!

for me, the most important element if being professional. think like a professional and act like a professional. its a professional environment anyway since everyone is there to work and earn money. people tend to get problems if they let personal stuffs like greed, envy, depression, such things, to meddle with work. everything would work out smoothly if all employees were professional. of course, being nice, considerate, and helpful sure helps a lot too in maintaining a good working environment. ^__^

Certainly nice coworkers are a perk! As a stay at home/work at home mom, I must confess that I love my coworkers! LOL! Anyway, one very important concern for me would be lighting. I have trouble seeing the computer screen after four hours non-stop work, if the lighting is not sufficient or if there is considerable glare on my screen. It gives me terrible migraine headaches. Other than that, I don't have any particular work requirements for a job. I guess if I had to name one other important element, it would be maternity or health insurance. I would love for an employer to offer those benefits. I mean, just in case I needed either one, I would be covered.

Hello wondericequeen, Yes, you are right. For me, colleagues and my superiors are important elements for me to have a good working environment. Both are important for me to love my job and work more seriously

I think that the most important elements in a nice working environment are the people you work with and how your boss treats you. Other things are just perks. (like health inurances and vacation time off)
