I always helped my grandmother in the kitchen when i was a little girl and I learned early on how to make a lot of things. When I moved out on my own I could cook many dishes for my family. I have only gotten better with my cooking. But I know a lot of people in the twenties who can't hard boil an egg so don't feel bad it is easy enough to learn how to cook. Just make sure you follow the recipe until you are good enough at guesstimating.

I would say it's an ongoing process. I didn't cooking when I was a toddler or anything but now I'm learning to make and try different types of food. It's really not that hard, just follow the recipe! :)

dont feel bad, I'm also 19, married and have a 7 week old boy and I cant cook to save my life. I was never around anybody to show me how to cook. If I'm luck I can make Mac n cheese. Cooking is an ongoing process. Just pick up a book and follow the directions and slowly over time you'll pick up how to make certain things. Thats what I'm doing and its starting to work for me.

I could cook some things before I left home, but I learned much more once I had my own place and needed to do the cooking. There are a lot of web sites with recipes and even videos that can help a beginner. If you need to learn now, pick something you'd like to make and search for a few recipes. If you read through them and have a question, post it here where you'll be sure to get plenty of help.

I started learning simple recipes when I was in middle school. 5-6 grade. In 7th grade (age 12 ) I learned some simple recipes and was allowed to use the kitchen at home, as I pleased. (with some supervision) In 8 & 9th grade I took classes at school. One was Home Economics, which offered a week long intro to cooking. In 9th grade I took a class called "Creative Cooking" and learned different recipes including international dishes. We studied the background and history of various traditional dishes and experimented with creating our very own meals (as a team) Our technical center had a course in Culinary Arts. There was a summer program that paid $ and offered us school credits. I was 14 at that time, and learned how to make various salads, breads, desserts and also how to use new kitchen tools and appliances. (Convection oven, proof box, gas ranges and ovens, frying vat) By the time I was 15 I was pretty well trained. Now and again I create a new recipe and add it to my files. I hope that I can someday create a cook book. If you would like some help with cooking, I'd suggest contacting a local tech school. If you are in high school, you may be able to enroll in cooking as an extra credit course. Good luck!

I remember helping my mom when I was little, but I would by no means say that I'm done learning how to cook. It seems that it's something that you're constantly learning. There are lots of things that are as easy as boiling water - like potatoes, pasta, and beans. I think the biggest part of learning to cook is just being willing to experiment. And if you don't want to have have the possibility of failing, just follow a recipe.

When I was 18 I had to boil potatoes for a child I was babysitting, well, I've always worked and had no idea how long you had to boil them for, so I thought I did the right thing and gave mum a call to ask her. She has never let me live it down. I'm now 22 and I've been living on my own for the past year - that's how you learn to cook. You start off fending for yourself with baked beans toasties and ramen noodles, and then you realise you want food more like what your mum made, so the recipie books come out, the food shopping becomes more fun, and given a few weeks you can master the more difficult recipies that wet your tastebuds. Start with easy things like roast dinner (really, it only involves chopping vegies, marinading them and the meat and chucking it in the oven - not literally!) then try a few stir frys, spaghetti bolognaise, etc. You don't have to make a big show of it, just turn around to the person(s) you live with and tell them you're going to cook tonight. If you think it will boost your confidence, the local councils and libraries always offer courses to help people learn to cook, or ask an older friend of neighbour to sample your work. Don't despair, one day you'll wake up to find yourself the next Masterchef.

Cooking is so easy, especially if you have your heart on it. I started learning to cook when i was in high school in our home economic class. And my mother is teaching me to cook also. You start with the basic then surf the internet for easy to cook recipe. Cooking utensil and measuring cup and spoon is also a big help for a starter.
