So here is a copy of a discussion that was deleted in mylot and I want people opinions of why it was deleted. I got this discussion from a mylot digest and I don't get it. Why was it deleted? What rule was broken here? cookingDo you have a crock pot? My crock pot is one of my favorite pieces of cookware. It is so easy to cook in. It cooks all day and the smell through the house is wonderful. I remember one day this summer I had made my pot roast. I put a beef roast with carrots, potatoes and onions in the pot. Then I mix cream of mushroom soup and French onion soup together and pour that over. Turn it on and it cooks all day. My neighbor called up and told me it was against the law to cook something that smells that good and not offer it That is all I could copy from it, since that is all that the digest offered. Now when I clicked on this discussion it said the discussion was deleted because it went against mylot guidelines. So what guideline did it violate? The recipe part? Well if that is what got it deleted I don't get it because the main topic was about a crock pot. I have started a discussion swhile back about my slow cooker and it didn't get deleted. I just don't understand. Can someone explain this to me? This kind of thing seems to be happening a lot these days and I want to know what the reason this was deleted so I don't make the mistake of posting one similar and have it deleted, too.

It was not what they wrote that was deleted. I guess that soon after it was posted, someone said it was a wonderful recipe, they loved it, and then added by the way if you want to find more recipes, go to my website, and they listed it in the response including the referral link. Or someone put in a referral link to their make money site. Then maybe someone wrote, "if you do not follow the recipe, I will send Gino or Blacky to your house===I know where you are!:) and myLot took that as a threat and so they deleted it. :) That is probably what happened. It has nothing to do with them listed the ingredients to the recipe. The person did not first do: Crockpot Recipe to Die for: one 2 lb pot roast, four carrots, two potatoes, etc. and that was all. It spoke of a crock pot, and as for repeating what someone else did, if that were the case, there would not be any new posts in myLot, because sooner or later, someone asks the same question in a roundabout way.

From the looks of it it is more of a recipe than a discussion LOL and that violates mylot rules.

Really? Recipes are not allowed? How about in responses?

Nope they aren't allowed because they don't make people want to discuss LOL. As far as I know you can put a recipe in a reply but not the maid topic itself. The same as putting referral links in the main topic it isn't allowed but you can put them in your replies.

According to the guidelines, unless they've changed very recently, recipes are allowed as a response if someone asks for them. I was always of the impression you can start a discussion, as the OP did here, telling about something you make or made but you can't give a "detailed" recipe, which I really don't think this post was but what do I know...lol! Will isn't that to bad. I remember responding to that with a long winded comment! Gee maybe that is why it got deleted. I do not remember the discussion being about the so called recipe. To me that is not a recipe she was stating what she put in the pot yes but not a recipe. If I remember correctly she was asking others about their crock pot and what types of foods they cooked in them. I totally enjoyed the conversation. NOW WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND is if this discussion was featured in the myLot Digest then why on earth would it be deleted? Now that is a much more interesting question to me; how about you?

I guess we will all see if my discussion gets deleted, as I copied and pasted this dicussion from the mylot digest. It should get deleted since it is word for word.

Very strange. I can only think it was not your fault and maybe one of the responses broke the rules. Do you think it possible that an entire discussion would be deleted because it included one bad post.

Weird! I don't have a clue! Maybe it was posted under a wrong category????

I think it got deleted because the discussion started with a recipe albeit vague, for a meal made in a crock pot. Discussions that start with recipes are against the rules. There are lots of discussions asking for recipes and lots of people post recipes in response. None of the ones I have responded to by providing a recipe have been deleted.

As far as I know you cannot post a discussion where the main part of the topic is recipe however you can post a discussion requesting a recipe. I do think that it was wrong to delete this one as your question was asking about a crockpot.

Gee, it's sure ridiculous in my opinion but apparently either someone considered what you posted to be a recipe or perhaps someone responded with a more detailed "recipe" without being asked in so many words for a recipe. I don't understand this rule one bit. I love finding new recipes here and anywhere else and I love sharing ones I have found or created. That's something I often have discussions about offline as well as here. Sorry it got deleted and thanks for reposting part of it. I can almost smell your kitchen now! Annie

Hello dear chrislotz. I cannot see anything between line that is against mylot guidelines and I hope that it will come back together with the other deleted one. I also had one deleted when I was talking about my breakthrough on mylot earnings. It had already had more than seventy responses and I felt so bad for the deletion by mylot and have been wanting it back to my discussion column because it is a very good one to help mylot with its reputation. I want it back and hope you get yours back in the hope that this one will not be deleted. Please listen to our voice, mylot admin. Thanks.

On the surface of it, this looks to be a good wholesome discussion to me. I remember responding to it to share about my crockpot experience and how I have enjoyed using the crockpot in my home, and I too don't really know why this is deleted. Having read what some of the members have said about starting discussions that solicit recipes, it seems to be this might be the reason, although I don't quite see eye to eye with the administrators about this recipe rule. I remember I participated in a discussion where the person offered a cheese cake recipe, and asked members to share their best cheese cake recipe with others. I offered one and was also voted the best response, and next thing I know the thread was gone. I am not sure what is wrong with discussing or sharing recipes. It's not like someone is trying to do business selling food here. People are just sharing something good (in this case, food) they have either purchased, made, cooked, tasted or experienced, so that others can also try these for themselves and benefit from the experience. Won't the community here benefit from such sharing? I know I will. I sure hope myLot can clarify about the rationale for such a rule, assuming that is the reason for the deletion.

Thank you for your vote, which tells me that you share my view about such deletions. I do hope though that myLot administrators can relax some of these rules if the sharing brings benefits to people in general and does not lead to any kind of opportunistic gain for those who shared.

Well here is my main response again since it got deleted. I still say the discussion may have been a certain member type. Its also possible the discussion started with a recipe. Its also possible the thing was deleted in trigger happy fashion.

i didn't know anything about posting recipes...maybe it seemed like a copy-paste job? Maybe mylot bots search for posts that were copied and pasted? My "mmmm...meatloaf" post didn't get deleted...http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1414964.aspx I didn't really mean it to be a recipe - just kind of turned out that way while I was typing it? I don't even know how to see if a post got deleted - either i've been lucky or just half asleep while being here...

Wow! I haven't known that there are deleted discussions. Maybe, it violated some rules. Do you got warnings when your discussions are violated? Does anyone know?

I'm sorry, I mean, did you receive any warning when that discussion was deleted?

No one receives a warning (or at least I have not, I suspect others haven't either) Its just "Post vanish" **poof** And that's it. Its gone.

You're not suppose to post recipes? Why have a cooking topic then? I hope the powers that be clear up the confusion.
