Dealing with stress

I was wondering what you did to calm yourself down in a stressful situation or at a stressful time in your life? When things get hectic do you take some time to yourself to relax and think about things or do you move forward and take things as they come? When I get stressed I find myself escaping to read a book or writing my feelings out, hoping that relaxes me and causes me to re-focus and feel better about things.

I find going for a long walk in the countryside in the open air clears my head and helps to relax me, usually I will take a book with me if it's dry I will find a nice bench in the middle of the wood or wide open space and will sit and read, I can stay there for hours, just totally engrossed in my book or watching the birds, animals around. I feel so much calmer, and the stress seems to evaporate and by the time I return I feel much much better.

I live in the country and that is so true. Recently we put a deck on the upper part of our house and I cannot wait to sit out there in the spring and summer and enjoy the sights.

I scream and shout and generally don't deal with it very well at all! then usually when ive stopped shouting I cry and then feel like poo for days. Not the best way I know...

I do that sometimes too. It doesnt usually make me feel much better but a good cry certainly helps.

Interesting discussion that you have started here. I myself like to exercise a lot if I am really stressed out and can get away from people to do so. Then, like yourself, I like to relax and read a book. Sometimes I will write in a journal, I find this very consoling.
