I respond to one of my friends discussion here about spaghetti..... and I acquire some idea for what I will prepare for my kids for tonight's dinner since my children are still in school now I have more time to prepare before they got home and I know they will be surprise for I prepare one of their favorite food.
But I have a little trouble here, I run out of stock of spaghetti sauce and noodles when I check it. Now I have to run on the nearest grocery near in my place to have a quick shopping. Is this happens to you when you want to cook or eat for something and then when you check it you run out of stock? What do you do? Do you go to the nearest store or you just forget it and try to cook it next time.?

Hi there! Yeah, it happens to us alot actually. Well, we can't go to the grocery because it's too far from our house. We just go to a nearby store and make do of what's available at the moment. So cooking spaghetti or any special dish is really planned at the start of the week and everything that will be needed is bought right then. The grocery is a thirty minute ride away from home so we makimize each visit.

We have stores and mini-groceries near our place, we could easily buy an ingredient if we don't have any stock left. Also, before we try to cook something, we make sure that every ingredient are present and buy them immediately if there aren't.
I'm the one's who cook for the family, so I always make sure that everything I need for that meals are present..

I have this happen to me alot but am afraid that it's some drive to the nearest store for me and with gas prices they way they are I don't make unnessesary trips to town. If I'm already planning to go to town I'll pick up what I want/need but other wise must do without until the next time I go.

Yes it happens when my wife wants to prepare the unusual stuff either informed by friends or by watching the TV programme on new tastes. Luckily the shops are closerby, because we live in the hub of commercial area and hence there is no problem in getting the supplies. It takes less than 10 minutes get any item we need.
Sometimes, when too many guests arrive without intimation also, we run out of supplies and it is replenished immediately with the out knowledge of guests, as we have main door as well as backdoor.

Most of the time, when I find myself out of anything, it is because when I stopped at a store, it turned out that oops - I forgot. It depends on how critical it is. If it's something important in whatever I want to cook, I might either not cook it until I actually remember to get that item. If it's not so important, I either do without, or try to see what I can substitute for it.

Hi lynboobsy that often happens to me too.LOL If I dont have an ingredient for what I want to make that night sometimes I will go to the store. But if I dont have the car then I will have something different that night.

I rarely go to the store to get something for a specific dish. I almost always have pasta stocked up in my pantry but there has be one or 2 times when I thought I had some and didn't.
I just cook with whatever I have on hand. Sometimes I'll even change recipes to use what I have...substitute ingredients or just leave out some ingredients.

In fact when plans and preparation are underway and i realise that i've run out of stock, the best thing to do is get to the nearest grocery store to get it.
except that i have something better that what i've planned to cook or prepare for that meal. mind set for something and come to see different thing can let the children loss their appetite and some may even refuse to eat if they're informed earlier. it's wonderful do act on your plans. good luck.

I usually run to the store. It helps that there is a store only a couple of blocks away, so it doesn't take very long. There are times when I can substitute an ingredient with something I already have, so I'll do that instead of going to the store.

If I'm in that same situation, I would go to the nearest grocery store to buy the needed ingredients. But if, say there is not enough time for me to go on an errand, maybe I'll consider some other recipe and cook my planned menu the next time. That thing hadn't happened to me before, since I post the menu for the week on the refrigerator, that way I can always check on what's the next menu so I can buy the things needed before hand.

I always make sure I have all my ingredients before I start.
Of cos, that would be the time I realised the shops don't have it, and after running around a few stores and not finding it, I just improvise with what I have.
Results are seldom success so I don't recommend that unless you are real talented as a cook.
