have you ever believed in superstitions? here in the philippines we have a lot of those.. ill enumerate to you some... 1. this may sound eekky for you but elder women have believed in this. when your ever first period arrives, you have to wipe your undie with blood on it to your face so that you wont have any pimples... 2. when i was a kid, whenever i get wounds on any part of my body that bleeds, somebody will tell me that a priest will come out of my wound. 3. they say that after giving birth, you must prevent yourself from taking a bath. i dont know what is their rationale for this. 4. if you sleep with your hair wet, they say it could lead you to blindness.. (ive done this gazillion times and still i can see!! haha.. of course it is a superstition belief. haha..) 5. you will never be allowed to sweep floors at night. i asked my nanny this when i was child for its reason why it is prohibited. she answered me that all the things will fly. hahah.. funny.. wait i guess ill add some more once i get to remember anything i know. do you have any superstition beliefs?

haha these things are so funny, but the menstruation thing is so grossss. Ive never heard of it though, I'm from the phils too ^^. Here in the Visayas we have this Sigbin superstition. Maybe you hear the song of Jr. Kilat "Sigbin"?? A sigbin is this dog-like creature that can transform into humans and I think eats them too. The only way to kill it is to cook it and eat it. Then we have the superstition of the mananaggal which is like a woman with a body thats split in half and lands on your roofs, so you really have to make your roof with this special wood if your roof is wooden. I have never heard of her landing on a aluminum roof haha.. Then we have the aswang or something like that. Its like a old lady witch that eats unborn children. So if somebody asks you if she can eat your child always say no.... There is also this barang island (barang means Vodoo) called Siquijor where it is believed that when someone purposely touched you (like when beggars touch you with this finger on you skin) then you should poke or touch them back cuz they are giving forth diseases. Never get your lice out of your hair at night cuz it will multiply your lice... Never cut a "Balete" Tree for its a spirit tree here in the Philippines. Always honk when you cross a place with spirits. skbh can you believe it? an albolario told us that my room has a white lady and kapre as inhabitants...well...

really? have you encountered anything with these spirits leaving in your room?? ooohhh.. 2 unseen spirits? scarryyy.. well, i dont know the song sigbin and if i get a chance to hear it i wouldnt understand it either. haha! yeah.. the first menstrual blood? that is really gross!!! super! very superstitious!!! they say when you go to siquijor the thing that i know is that when a citizen of that place gets to touch you or just gets a chance to rub their skin from yours, they could do such things like kulam to you.. see how scary it is? especially when they know you are not from that place.. they normally do that.. this was told to me by my co-worker.. scary isnt it? now it makes me think not to go to siquijor whatever happens. haha!

If you are about to go outside of your home and if some body is sneezing then aged person in your home will ask to wait for some time it means sneezing is not a good sign. It is believed that some bad thing will happen with you. In India there is a strong belief that while you are on the road if cat is passing accross you then you will have to wait some time and if you do no0t wait there is every possibility of road accident and it is true and happened in my life. I have experienced all these things .Some time due to circumstances we are compelled to believe these but I thing superstitious is have some role in our life whether it is related directly or indirectly. pkc3000

Dear friend skbh12 I have read your views and it is very interesting. You will agree with me that in every human life superstitious is related. My parent told me when I was kid that whenever any person is sneezing do not go to the outside for a few moment as it is the indication of bad or evil. Dnot sweep the house in the night hrs. There is also a believe in our country that if you see falling of stars from the sky you have to pray before the god as falling of star is a bad sign. There are so many things which in our dailylife prevent us . Though in the modern era we are not beliving these, but if any bad things happened with us then we are repenting saying that if I would have done this this could have been avoid. pkc3000

I can only say that there are some superstitions that should better be followed because there's no harm in following. Yet there are lots of them that are not applicable in the modern world...

ahm yeah??? but my family does. superstitious beliefs? i have some but i think its shinto or pagan. i always put salt in my window sill and door entrance because i was accustomed to this. its like a routine or something that i used to do because it became an ordinary thing for me. lol. then my mother put talisman under our bed. also, never look yourself at the mirror at night eve. lol. thats the only superstition that i was afraid of because it is believed that any evil intention/s will leave your image on the mirror. yay! so much for my vanity. hehehehe
