Watching a television program last night, there was a story about family pets who lose a loved one.One owner was a suffering from cancer, his dog would not leave his side, and had to be encouraged to even go out to relieve himself.Another lady was concerned what would happen to her dogs, cat, goats and pigs. She reasoned finding a home for dog and cat may not be too hard, however was concerned about the others. The R.S.P.C.A. has a wonderful solution,The legacy Program it is named.A pet owner can make prior arrangments for their pets to be taken in and cared for by foster parents until such time as a new loving owner is found.I thought this to be a fantastic idea, and was wondering if in your Country there are similar programs. If not what would you do to ensure your pet was cared for if they lost you?

I've never heard of this, but I find it to be a wonderful idea for those with many animaals. Animals need to be loved and cared for, they need to be able to go on after their owner(s) pass on. I very much like this idea of the Legacy Program. That is something I may look into for family members who have pets but who are not well.

There are a good number of rescue societies and other non-profits in the US that can help deal with this type of situation. I've seen everything from cat and dog, to parrot and even iguana rescue societies that will find good homes for former pets. One of these days I'm planning to get an iguana and my wife and I will most likely contact the iguana rescue society since we'll be giving a good home to a former pet, and get an animal that is already housebroken.

I would hope my family would take them in...But if not the person that removed me from my home would have the heart to find them a place to...
